The Rich Indian Culture

Sometime ago, I got stuck in fixing a customer’s phone, so, I entered YouTube and typed “How to fix…”. I got replies, but the shocking part is the first ten videos that popped up were of Indians. These people are good! Ah! Verry good.

At a very young age, I’ve always wanted to visit India. Why? Indian culture is wide and is incredibly enriched with hundreds or even thousands of years filled with history of a lot of warriors and happenings. Their movies portrayed a lot of those histories.

Watching Indian movies, I realized that there are diverse culture and different ethnic groups. Just when I thought that I was getting better in speaking the general Indian language, I realized that there is Telugu, and more (about 1500 spoken languages). However, despite this diversity in ethnicity, they have a strong sense of unity and share the same values, and traditions. How sweet?

I want to attend their various religious centers. If you watch Indian movies well, you’ll know they have a lot of festivals, my favourites being Holi (the festival of colours) and Dilwale (festival of lights). Thanks to Sharukh khan, Akshay Kumar, Ashwarya Roy, and other lots who made me fall in love with those celebrations infused with some lovey-dovey scenes. Okay, now I think I won’t mind an Indian wife so that my children will have a touch of interculture relations.

I’ve never seen people eat in Plantain leaves, until I watched Indian movies. More like ‘family that eats together stay together thingy’. Not talking about the civilized Indians that use mug now, I mean those core traditional Indian aunties that eat together with their uncles, grandfathers, great grandmothers, nieces and nephews in leaves and share sweets at occasions. The way they portray the love for family and ensure that the ties of family and community are not severed, the essence of unity, respect to the elders, high level of responsibility, hospitality, and the way they support one another even up till the extended family really make me want to explore their culture and traditions.

The flavours and colors of their meals? I loveet! I really want to taste those special meals they make from their various home-made herbs and spices, and all those dishes made from coconut. I want to know how Biryani, dosa, and butter chicken taste

One interesting thing I want to experience too is that street dance. I don’t want to believe it only happens in their movies. I want to see those choreographies and listen to those melodious voices in real life, and maybe witness a real-life Indian wedding. I want to see the Kathak and kathakali dances and enjoy the beauty and grace of those rhythmic movement and the topnotch stories they display with those dances.

Indian arts and crafts seem to be on another level. From textiles that are handwoven, woodworks and lot more. I don’t know much except for the ones they mention in movies like the Kalamkari and Pashmina textiles. I think they have a lot of gold too. Almost everything they make seem to have a touch of gold.

I have a sister that loves to do Yoga. Maybe someday, I can take her to India with me to experience first-class yoga movements and feel the excellent wellness of the body-mind connection with the best yoga instructor, and maybe she can learn something directly from the people who originated yoga. And yes, I can buy her some saree.

Saree is Indian’s traditional attire worn by their women. It looks so beautiful on them that I wish I could see a dressed up Indian woman in real life. So, maybe when I eventually get the opportunity to travel to India, I will buy myself some dhotis or Kurta-pajamas (that’s the outfit for men). I may not buy saree though, except my sister decides that she wants one. Lol.

Back to the YouTube channel. I always wonder why most of Africa’s top people travel to India for excellent healthcare services, then I realized that apart from the fact that India’s influence across the world cut across different culture, art, music, meals, and spirituality, they have a strong education system which the citizens are taking advantage of. They are also strong in science and technology and the most interesting part is that they do not hoard knowledge. I guess that’s why the first 10 videos I saw on YouTube are that of Indians.

So, who is ready to go to India with me? Let’s explore the beautiful culture together.
