El Salvador Continues to Buy Bitcoin

In a move that underscores its commitment to Bitcoin, El Salvador has added 12 BTC to its reserves, bringing its total Bitcoin holdings to 6,044 BTC, worth an estimated $620 million.

The latest purchase comes after an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to ease some of its cryptocurrency policies, such as reducing the government’s role in the Chivo wallet and making Bitcoin optional for businesses.

Despite these concessions, El Salvador has maintained its strategy, with Stacey Herbert, director of the National Bitcoin Office, stating that the country’s view on Bitcoin has not changed.

In a related context, El Salvador has supported initiatives such as the launch of digital bonds by Bitfinex Securities and the reception of Tether, which moved its headquarters to the country after obtaining a local license. These steps come to strengthen the supportive environment for digital assets and the adoption of blockchain technologies.
