A Good Samaritan…

Good day to you all my tutors and learners here on hive.

I remain this humble soul who is always ready to appreciate my existence on the surface, once we realize that staying alive is never by our power or might then we know that all we have to do in life is to thank God for his mercy and grace over us.

Every day is another day to remain kind and grateful. A grateful soul receives more. It’s just a good thing to inculcate the habit of appreciating things and remaining happy and content about all you have.

One thing I know is that people are always watching us. They are watching our moves, our acts, our words, and how we relate with others. You don’t know maybe someone next to you is taking you as a model or a mentor.

There are times we just receive kindness from others out of the blue without doing something to them. Yeah, it happens but most times it doesn’t just happen out of the blue. Either we have done something for them that we never considered worthwhile to us, but to them, it’s something so great and important. It might look little to us but to them, they must have cherished it a lot and then in some way would want to have a payback.

The payback might come directly or indirectly, it might come directly from them or they get it through someone else we don’t even expect from.

There are times we get rewarded for things that we never worked for, it might be the doings of our parents or someone we know and the person might be no more. Then they feel the best thing to do to us is to reciprocate the love that was shown to them.

This would take me straight to the prompt for week 49 edition 3 on the hive learners community and the topic to be discussed is UNDESERVED.

We all know how tough it is to study in Nigerian universities when you have to battle with your academics and also sort for feeding and all sorts. Even the stress of just knowing you are a student is enough to make you down.

It’s another scenario when we talk about children from poor homes who are just trying to get themselves educated or talking about those students who are sponsoring themselves. It is always a difficult task for them.

There was a day during my second year at the university. It was a stressful day to be precise from early morning lectures at 6 am I got to class to get a seat for lectures. Down to running to the laboratory for practicals and assignments submissions. I knew I was tired that day. I promised to treat myself to something nice when I get home.

On my way home in the evening I branched to a bank to withdraw the last amount on me. I think it’s 1000 naira then. I am going to take transport home and that is something we can’t escape because the distance from the school gate down to the campus is not something to trek. So we are always budgeting our transport fare alongside all we do.

I got to the school park after withdrawing and I wasn’t much surprised with what I saw. There are a lot of crowds and few vehicles. So the available vehicles are being dragged and students would rough their way in. I can’t stress myself in addition to the one I got during the day.

I sat down under a tree and luckily a bus parked right in front of me. I rushed down the door and thought I would have my way in so easily but it wasn’t. Before I got to the door there were a lot of people already. I have to struggle my way in. Finally, I got on the bus and was relieved. Yeah, I have been dreaming of what to treat myself with.

It was time for me to alight the bus as I got to my bus stop already and it was time for me to pay the bus driver. I dipped my hands in my bag but I couldn’t find the money I just withdrew. Heheh. I checked my bag and my pocket but I couldn't find it. The driver was already furious at me. I felt disgraced and disappointed. The driver threw words at me telling me that I am just part of those who scam drivers. Instead of me politely asking him to help me before I got in. Now I am trying to act wise.

I tried to prove myself right but he didn’t agree. I was pissed off. I showed him my card and I just withdrew the money from the bank but I couldn't find it. Suddenly a lady from the back of the bus voiced out. She said driver please drive on. I will pay for him.

I was surprised. I knew her from nowhere. I tried to see her face but the crazy driver drove off immediately. I was so grateful to her from the deepest part of my heart. It might not be a huge amount but the fact that she saved me from being disgraced was much more appreciated.

The funniest part was when I got home I still tried looking for the money and I found it stuck to one of my notes. I thought it was because it was a new note. I never believed my eyes. This should have happened in the presence of that crazy driver. Haha.

I went out to a restaurant and got myself a nice meal and went back home to rest. It was a day indeed.

Hi Friend! It's true that we often take our existence for granted and forget to appreciate the blessings that we have.
And It's important to always strive to be the best version of ourselves and treat others with kindness and respect.
Thank you for reminding us to appreciate the blessings in our lives and to strive to be kind and grateful every day.

Hmm, that would have been a total embarrassment if not for that lady. I hate such a scenario too. At that moment, no one would want to believe you actually withdrew the money because of what they have experienced already. Thank God the money was not lost and you could treat yourself to something nice that day. Same with me, when I have seen how tiring the day has been for me, I deserve something awesome. That is something good though.

I trust you. I knew I never chose a wrong mentor. Someday I am sure I get to practice that mentorship on you. 😂

And yeah thank God for sending the lady. Lots of embarrassment out there for me

I totally agree with you that things don't just happen, there must be a cause somewhere, somehow. We reap from what we sow, sometimes we might not get the reward directly but it will surely come. Although there are few occasions where we get helped from total strangers but I believe n the super natural too, I am strongly convinced that even if it's a total stranger, somehow it was triggered by something we or our parents did somewhere or somehow to deserve that. The way we lives, our good or bad works are seed, the fruits will definitely be ripe someday.

Hmm that lady was a God sent hehe, bus drivers don't have time to hear your stories. The only language they understand is the language of money hehe. Good people still exist, though the world is evil and corrupt but there are men and women who won't stand and watch others being humiliated. What that lady did was not for you, she did it for you to do to another, so don't forget that you are owing someone out there too😁😁

You're lucky that the lady offered to pay for your bus fare and she did so without any expectation of a reward or return. It is heartwarming to know that there are still kind and compassionate people in the world.

People are sometimes like Angeles who come into our life when we need someone the most. Nice one.
