Seeking for peace…

Good day to you all here in the inkwell community, today is another beautiful day on the earth's surface. Tomorrow will be the long-awaited Christmas celebration and nothing more than celebrating the new year soon. Life is good and we just have to make sure we create some important things into our lives. What are those essentials?

  • Peace of mind
  • Happiness from within
  • Joy above all

Peace is what I would be dwelling on for today. We all want one thing in our existence and that’s peace of mind. When this is present, then we know that we are free to have the life we want.

The absence of peace is what causes internal war, an unfriendly environment, envy, hatred, and many more bad vibes amongst others.

My experience seeking peace of mind.

I could remember my days back then at school, it was my first year at the university and I was a total novice then. People call them freshers or mock them with the acronym JJC, Jolly Just Come. No one would love to be called this name for long, so no matter what, we try to hide our identity as fresher in the school.

As a fresher, everything would surely look so strange to you. From navigating your way around the school premises, locating your lecture halls, getting to make friends, and many more. But with time everything would get a clearer view.

Another major issue when you are a newbie in school is getting an apartment for yourself. Only if you are fully funded would you be able to get one and also undergo the heavy expenses of registration and all sorts. Most times the one year is always about scouting with seniors till you get to find your way.

I was also a victim of scouting since I don’t have that much money to get an apartment immediately after resuming. I was with my elder brother and his roommate. We were just three in the room and it was peaceful since the two of us are siblings.

We would cook and dine together, we also sleep comfortably on our beds with no issues. I felt how lucky I was to be with them. I even had plans of retaining the room after they graduated.

Days passed by.

My brother’s roommate decided to bring someone into the room because he needed funds then. He never knew who he wanted to bring in and he doesn’t care what kind of fellow he was. All he needed then was his money. And that was a success for him. He was able to bring the guy in and we began to live together as roommates four in a room. 😔.

I couldn’t complain much then because I was the youngest and I was still a new member. But there is always something strange that happens and I realized that it began when this new guy came on board.

Many times we would leave our foodstuffs in the room and before we arrived from school then we would have seen someone cooked and eaten. Who can this be? We asked ourselves but he would always deny it. No one wanted it to turn into a quarrel. My brother and I decided not to keep our foodstuffs in the room again. So we do buy the little amount we want to cook. And that brought peace to the issues of foodstuffs.

At the beginning of the month, this new guy would ignore us and go to some restaurants outdoors and then come home with packages of food. He would flex his life and after some days when he finished all his money then he would start negotiating with me on how we can cook together. I knew he was the one who took our foodstuffs behind us. 😆.

Lastly, one of his worst behaviors is smoking. He would always smoke inside the room, and after that he would leave the house till the next day. I don’t like the smell of cigarettes, but every time I come home from school the room would have been filled with the scent of cigarettes. I complained to my brother. He told me to have patience with him.

Finally, it was the end of the semester and we were able to pack our belongings. My brother graduated and I also got another apartment far away from our former apartment. Taking that decision brought peace to my life and I maintained that till the end of my academic year.

A peaceful existence is the best one can have to live long and remain happy always.

All the events and experiences you describe can derail one's sense of peace. You did a nice job of portraying the different factors that were so disruptive, and describing how you resolved them. Moving to another apartment away from "the new guy" was very smart. He seemed like the kind of person who would continue to take advantage of others and lie about it indefinitely.

Ooh, I hate it when people take other people's things. Especially when they lie about it and do it again! I'm glad you got away from that guy.
