What a surprise 😲

Good day to you all in the inkwell community

It's been almost three years now since we graduated. Everyone had to find their way, the togetherness, the joy, the pain, the good times, and the worst times we shared are over. We all know we might get to see each other again but it's going to take some time, probably years.

I got to understand the Yoruba adage that says

20 friends cannot play together for 20 years.

There was a day a friend of mine called me, my roommate when I was in school. It was fun speaking with him again after a long time. We have been chatting mostly. The discussion went on for hours, we joked and laughed as we reminisced about our days in the past.

He was about to end the call before he told me. “Are we not going to see each other?” “When and where can we meet?”

I told him I will give him a response later. After thinking about it, I realized I won't be able to make it over to his place, the distance is just too far. We agreed he will be one to tell me whenever he is close by so I can come and visit him.

A few months later he called me for a surprise visit. He said he will be coming to see me at home. Haha. That was uncalled for, but he is my friend, and I was left with no option but to accept it. He told me he will be coming the next day. I also prayed for his safety and anticipated his arrival.

This time I am a little broke, I don't have much on me but who am I going to tell that a friend of mine came to visit me and I couldn’t even welcome him with anything?

Before his arrival, I withdrew the last money from my account and used it to buy some things for him. I prepared one of his favorite meals and also got him soft drinks to chill. When he came he was so happy to reunite with me again, it’s been years now.

After eating, we had a lot of gists and had fun. Then he was about to leave because he would be traveling to some other state far away. I felt a little sad. I asked him to allow me to take my bath and get prepared to escort him.

I dropped my clothes on the bed and went to take my bath. After dressing, we trekked out to the street. I don't know why he has never stopped sweating, I have known him for that since we began to know each other.

I suggested we get him a handkerchief so he can use it to wipe his face off. I knew I didn’t have any money on me, we branched to a kiosk and he was about to pay but the attendant said she doesn’t have the change for the money.

I dipped my hands in my pocket and felt some money in there. Oooh! 😲 😯

How come?? How did this amount of money get into my pocket? Did I forget it there, even after washing my clothes??? I began to question myself.

My friend didn't act as if anything happened, he was even feeling surprised too. So I couldn’t think of him doing such a thing. How come??

This money?? I dare not forget such money!, not when I am so broke without money on me? I was confused for a while before I finally concluded I forgot it in my pocket.

When he was about to board a bus back home, he looked me in the face and whispered into my ears.

“I kept the money in your pocket 😂 😂” he was smiling, but I just can't smile. I got more confused 😝.

He waved goodbye and left for his destination. I was still so surprised by the occurrence. When did he do that and how did he know the cloth I will wear?

At the end of my thinking, I realized he was the one behind the surprise. He must have kept the money in my pocket when I was in the bathroom. Since I dropped my clothes on the bed. He just slid it in and looked away. 😂

I called him back to appreciate his surprise. I wasn’t expecting that at all. Not occasional, he just did that out of the blue.

Since then it remains the biggest surprise that has ever happened to me. A surprise to be precise. I was grateful for what he has done and I hope someday I can pay back his kindness towards me.

In conclusion

A friend in need is a friend indeed. I knew he must have understood me to the extent that he knew I was broke and didn’t have a lot on me. Even though I tried all I could to hide it from him.

You don't make people forcefully beg for things from you before you grant them. You can grant them out of nowhere and make them feel happy and loved.

Thanks for reading.

They say good friends are better than pocket money... In this case, you have both, so you should consider yourself blessed. That was a kind gesture by your friend and quick thinking for him to have placed that money in your pocket without you noticing.
Thanks for participating in this week's prompt:)

Ahh I loved reading this. You didn't have to tell him your present financial situation. Being your friend he was able to sense when you needed his help. I think only a truely close friend could've noticed that and eve decide to help

Yeah you are right about that. Only a true friend and a close one could sense that easily.

Thanks for reading. I am glad you enjoyed it

It's a beautiful and interesting story. A good friend will always be a good friend. No matter how much money we have, a friend will always be there when we need them. Regards

😂. You were smiling like I should be that friend of yours who will just send some hive to your wallet 😂 😂. Or maybe it’s the other way round. 😂
