Crochet: My Forever Obsession- Wk 191

Anyone who knows me very well knows how obsessed I am with crochet. It started as a skill, developed into a passion, from passion into a business and then finally an obsession. Even today, I’ve been crocheting since morning and realized I planned on writing this so I had to pause. I started crocheting at a very young age, I think I was 9 or 10 years. I wasn’t so good in the beginning and it was an annoying activity for me because I always got it wrong. It was actually something we were supposed to learn for a project work in primary 5.

I didn’t take it serious when it was being taught. It was later after I realized we had to do it individually, then I started taking the crocheting lessons serious in class. Even after we submitted that crochet project work,I still kept on crocheting(I was already so into it). After so many years later, something I didn’t care about became something I was passionate about. Now I am able to crochet almost anything, I just have to know what the client is talking about( a picture is even bonus).

The good thing about this is that I am also able to teach others who want to learn, although the first question I ask them is if they are patient because you’d need an ocean full of patience to be able to crochet. I have been working on a project for days now and I keep on undoing my work because when it comes to crocheting I am a perfectionist. This is the main reason why I always ask for my mom’s opinion when I’m crocheting.

She is a needleworker but not a crocheter and as a crochet perfectionist I normally end up seeing mistakes that do not even exist so she’s always around to tell me “but there’s nothing wrong with this, it’s really beautiful”.
Crocheting helps me alot mentally. The repetitive action calms me and also helps in reducing my anxiety all the time. The moment I start feeling worried, I quickly locate my yarn and hook to start crocheting and just like my magic ,I feel relieved all the time.

According to my rough estimation, I have been crocheting for over 13 years so that’s 13 years of crochet obsession. I really don’t see this obsession coming to an end anytime soon.
The only disadvantage about my crochet obsession is that the moment I start doing it, it’s very difficult to stop and do other activities I have for the day. I even end up skipping meals but don’t worry I already have that under control.

Someway somehow, I enjoy it and I love the journey I’m embarking on with crochet.I can’t wait to see the beautiful crochet pieces these hands will continue to make.
