Democracy and the Freedom to Choose

Hello to all hive users 🤗❤️🙏
Hope you all are healthy and doing great in your life🙂

For any democratic country, elections are of paramount importance, as it is through them that the public selects its representatives. This is why representatives place such great emphasis on elections; they realize that the electoral process is the very mechanism that establishes them as representatives of the people. One often observes how active representatives become during election periods—projects that had been stalled for years suddenly begin to move toward completion, and representatives make every effort to cultivate a clean and positive image. In a democratic government, the public holds immense significance, as the right to choose one's representative rests with the people; thus, elections are conducted by the people and for the people. Ultimately, the public is well aware of which leaders have performed well and which have not, and it is based on this assessment that they cast their valuable votes.

The question now arises: should the public be explicitly told which candidate is suitable for them and which is not? Answering this is complex; while national news channels do broadcast information about various candidates during elections, this serves merely to inform the public rather than dictating whom they should or should not vote for. In a democracy, the ultimate right to choose lies with the people; the media has no role in instructing the public on whom to support. The media's primary responsibility is to present the truth—essentially placing a "report card" of the contesting candidates before the public—so that citizens can understand the nature of each candidate and make an informed decision regarding their valuable vote.

While we are discussing the media, it is important to remember that anyone working in the media is, first and foremost, a human being. We cannot base our decisions solely on their perspectives, as every individual holds a unique viewpoint; for instance, some people might favor specific government policies, while others prefer different initiatives undertaken by the administration. Such preferences vary from person to person, and since we tend to view matters through the lens of our own inclinations, it becomes challenging to determine which option is truly best for society. Ultimately, the very definition of democracy centers on the people, and the democratic process relies on the public's participation. The minimum voting age is 18; by this age, an individual has gained a significant understanding of society and the ability to distinguish between right and wrong. They can evaluate candidates—assessing their past performance and track record—to make an informed decision about which candidate is superior and deserving of their valuable vote.

The media plays a crucial role in a democracy, acting as a mediator between the public and the government; its function is to convey the people's concerns to the government and present the government's actions to the public, thereby ensuring transparency between the two. If the media were to start forming and expressing its own opinions, elections would lose their purpose and become mere formalities; if the media were to decide the outcome, there would be no point in holding elections at all. Therefore, such decisions should be left entirely to the public.
The media's role should simply be to provide accurate information to the public; when people have clear information, they can make better choices and gain a better understanding of the candidates. If the media performs its job properly, the public will face no difficulty in selecting a candidate and will be able to choose the right one.
