Schools primarily impart textbook-based knowledge, and the curriculum is often confined to what is written in books. While some teachers do occasionally impart real-life lessons, the majority focus solely on completing the syllabus. It is the responsibility of parents to educate their children about important matters—topics that might be uncomfortable to discuss but are nonetheless crucial. One such vital subject is sex education. Many parents feel apprehensive about discussing this topic with their children, yet it is essential. Very few schools provide sex education, making it all the more important to address this subject.

Many parents worry that discussing these matters early on might lead their children down the wrong path—especially given how easily accessible the internet is today and the fear that young children can quickly go astray. However, this is not always the case; it largely depends on how the information is conveyed. If the approach is right, children grasp the concepts well and often become eager to learn more, wanting to gain a comprehensive understanding of the subject.

Children should be educated about certain matters from a young age; for instance, they need to understand the difference between a 'good touch' and a 'bad touch,' as well as the boundaries regarding who has the right to touch their bodies—and it is the parents' responsibility to impart this knowledge. If you wish to maintain a friendly, open line of communication with your children, you must cultivate a relationship where both parties feel comfortable speaking freely. Parents should be able to discuss matters without hesitation, and children should feel equally uninhibited when they want to talk. When such a bond exists, any topic can be discussed with ease.

It is essential to introduce children to sex education as they enter adolescence—around the age of 11 or 12—so they understand what is appropriate and what is harmful. They need to know the consequences of watching pornography, the dangers of addiction, the impact it can have on the brain, and the reality behind it. They should also be informed about STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases) and the precautions necessary to prevent them. While many parents feel uncomfortable discussing these topics, it is crucial that children are well-informed about them.
Many parents believe that their children will naturally acquire knowledge about these matters as they grow up. However, it often happens that the information comes too late, or sometimes not at all, leaving the children with a significant lack of understanding. Once children are older, parents often feel uncomfortable discussing these topics; after all, if they couldn't talk about them when the children were young, how could they do so later? That is why these conversations should take place at the right age—or even a bit earlier—but they certainly should not be delayed.
