Dry Bones Rising

Anita was born into a family of three. Her father had been the only one taking care of her and her siblings ever since her mum died. Her death was a mystery and up till today, they are still looking for the trace of the mother's death.

After research, it was confirmed that a dreadful being in the form of an animal had been roaming about at night which Anita's mum may have gotten involved with and maybe the one that got her killed. No one knew how, but with the research, it was somehow true.

Anita is still in form three and has been seeing something so strange in her dreams which happened to be dreadful to her. Now, she is not ready to close her eyes just to sleep because anytime she does, she must see the dreadful being. This has been giving her concern and so she decided to tell the dad about it. The dad on the other hand overlooked Anita's words and took her for just a baby.

Her mates in school had been missing and no one had come up with any idea on what and how those children had been going missing. One day, Anita and Temi, her best friend, were seated gisting about what has been the problem in their school that children are going missing. It was not too long as their school was located on the outskirts of the community, they heard a sound just as if someone had passed through the bush path. They tried tracing but could not come up with anything. They are the oldest in their class and wanted to call some of their classmates to go into the bush to search, but could not do it alone instead talked to the school principal. He later allowed them to go but was led by a teacher, Mr Jerry.

They both embarked on the tour and there were seven of them. On their way, Judi saw something like a human being following them which no one was aware of. She was the one at the back and tried to meet up with the others. She began to hear footsteps coming toward her, but she could not say a word to others instead kept on hoping that it would be their mate who sneaked out just to follow them.

After some hours, she left the group and started observing to know who was coming behind them. No one noticed her disappearance instead they continued into the thick bush searching profusely.

Judi went to a place where she saw bones of human beings, some of which are still fresh. She shouted just for others to hear but we're deep gone.

After some minutes again the bones gathered themselves and turned into skeletons. There were five skeletons altogether and she began to shout while running towards her. After running some distance, she thought she had escaped not knowing that they were so much in the bush. She sat on a tree trying to calm her head. She raised her head but saw the dreadful bones. Three skeletons were standing in front of her and so she could not run any further as she had gotten tired. Immediately, she heard the voice of others approaching, she shouted for help. This wanted to give her a relaxing spirit, but the skeletons were moving closer to her, immediately she jumped and began to run again.

Judi explained to others but they could not believe what she was saying as she was alone when they got to her. They had been looking for her and now she is saying rubbish?

Anita checked her watch and discovered that it was the same time she do see those strange beings in her dreams Anita believes her as these are the things she had been seeing in her dreams.

The teacher went to where he could defecate. As he bowed down to release the long waited substances from his anus, one of the skeletons showed up and disappeared within some seconds. After seeing this, he could not defecate any longer and instead ran shouting to others "Judi was right".

The question now is how would they get back to their school or their respective homes just after checking the weather and time? As they were contemplating, Atim saw from a distance so many skeletons. She shouted and others started running to a destination not known to them.

Anita could not run further but instead waited to see to the end of these skeletons of a thing. The skeletons were transforming into humans. Three of the skeletons transformed into some of her classmates who had gone missing. She was frightened and could not wait any longer to see to the end instead took heel. They began to follow her.

Temi, who had not run far from Anita, saw the three students who were missing running after Anita. She began to run after them but with fear. Immediately, they turned as Anita held the cross placed on her neck. They later faced Temi. It was not too far, she was torn down by the dried bone turning her into the dry bone just like them. Anita could not do anything to save Anita as she has no power to send them away. They are left with six people. In fear, Anita ran to meet up with others but saw the unexpected. She saw one of the skeletons eating up one of her mates.

The funniest aspect of it was that after eating up humans, they will transform into the person they have eaten. As they are eating up humans, the flesh will be adding up or growing out from their bodies.

We were left with five. Master Jerry went in another direction and the skeleton chased him and indeed the only thing they saw was his clothes and blood that filled the whole ground. Nono e was safe and so everyone was trying to run for their lives.

Anita could not hold it and instead began to run in another direction which seemed like the road to their school but was not sure. She later met two moving skeletons who were somehow protecting her. She was so surprised to see skeletons fighting for her on a just course. After some minutes, she saw her mum. It was her mum who has been protecting her. It was them Anita knew that the necklace was magical. She wept but her mum could not return any longer. The only thing she observed was that the skeletons can be destroyed when she directs her necklace toward them. This was how she began to use it to defend herself and also the two of her mates left.

She said to herself that hadn't she known before now that the necklace can destroy them, she would have used it to defend herself and others.

They found their way out as all the skeletons got burnt to ashes after seeing the necklace. Atim, Anita and one other returned home safely.
