Happy afternoon, friends of Hive. I greet you with much affection, wishing you well from the bottom of my heart. Today, I wish to share with you a reflection based on various situations that can lead us to harbor unwanted feelings in our hearts. I hope you can read it and take advantage of it.

Over the years I have realized that each of the actions that we carry out comes from a feeling that can be positive or negative. Hence the importance of self-examining ourselves frequently to know what we have in our heart and what are the reasons that lead us to perform or feel some feelings. In this opportunity I want to talk to you about two feelings that really corrode the heart, namely envy and resentment.

For a long time I thought that envy was a product of the economic inequalities that exist. But unfortunately this is not only the root of this poisonous feeling. Sad to say, sometimes there are people who do not envy your achievements, nor envy the material things you own, because in many occasions there are those of us who go unnoticed in society because we have not achieved many accomplishments nor have we acquired possessions. This being the case, my question is, what can you envy someone who does not have a good economic position and is not a prestigious or recognized person in his environment?.

Sometimes what is envied in this person is the peace and harmony with which he/she lives in spite of having little. It can also be the case that they envy their way of being, because they have a well-defined personality and are able to defend their points of view with great conviction without being afraid of anything or anyone; these are very striking characteristics in a person that do not go unnoticed by others.

Regardless of the fact that we can become envious, this feeling will kill us if we do not control it to the point of destroying it. I have always tried to put myself in the place of people on both sides so to speak, in order to understand and find the help that is needed, however, I have to emphasize that it is not always easy to help someone and much less if they do not recognize that they have a problem.

Envy is such a dangerous feeling that it can turn a person into a despicable being, because the person who feels envy not only desires what the other person possesses but also wants to take it away. Considering that it is such a damaging issue, it is necessary that we learn to control this negative feeling that can arise in any of us. One way to do this is by striving to control our feelings. Because we are imperfect people, from time to time, quite unpleasant tendencies will emerge from our center of motivations; there we must stop, think and reflect in order to combat them. We cannot say that we are immune to this feeling, anyone can experience it, but the idea is to control it, dominate it and put an end to it.

It is well known that social differences cause divisions and can lead us to feel envy towards others. For example, when we focus on what we do not have and see that almost everyone else has what we desire, we may feel frustration and helplessness, but this type of feeling is very different from envy. Envy has more power, because although both frustration and resentment hurt us, envy reveals that we want to hurt the one who has what we desire. The moment we imagine the scenario in which the person no longer has what we want, we are already moving on to wishing the person harm. And although no one knows it because it is only in our heart, it causes us a lot of harm, since it turns us into bad people.

About six months ago, I didn't have a phone to work with, that is, I didn't have my work tool. For a long time, my brother lent me his laptop and that was what I worked with, but there were times when my brother needed his laptop and more than once it coincided with the times when I needed this work tool the most.

Friends, I confess that life sometimes puts in front of us the things we need but do not have and we believe that the wind is blowing in favor of the whole world but not us, however, this is completely false. Situations like these can lead us to feel envy, but we must avoid it. It is true, we live in a world of inequalities, we do not all have the same opportunities but as I mentioned in a post some time ago, we can create our opportunities.

I remember when I needed my phone, wherever I was I saw that everyone had a smart phone; old people, children, adults, and I said, why is it so difficult for me to have one, if the whole world has one? If I need it for work, why don't I have one? Looking for the answers to these questions, I only felt helplessness. Instead of focusing on the fact that I had the possibility of my brother lending me his laptop, with which I could work hard to buy my phone, I was focusing on why the whole universe had something that I needed and I didn't. I was thinking about why I didn't have it.

This type of situation is what makes us feel resentment. Seeing that it is easier for others to acquire something and not us, can lead us to feel very unhappy, but friends let's beware of that, rather focus on what is within our reach and use it as a springboard to get to acquire what we want. Otherwise, our heart will be filled with frustration that will only bring us bitterness and pain.

It should be noted that this thought I had, that the whole world had the wind at its back because everyone had a smartphone, is completely absurd, it is a falsehood that I believed in a moment in which I let myself be carried away by frustration. So when you think or it comes to your mind that everyone is doing well but you, that everyone has possibilities but you, don't believe that lie because it is not so.

It is just the need of the moment that is leading you to see reality in a completely different way than it is. We all go through difficulties, we all find it hard to have things and although there is a small group that can have things in an easier way, the vast majority does not cost, so do not believe that lie; because if you come to believe it you will begin to feel envy and resentment and this will harm you.

Now, what happens when what we envy in others is their way of being, their style, their essence? There is a problem of self-esteem that we must also channel. Friends, as a dear friend of the blockchain says: "we must all shine with our own light", but there are those who lack their own light because they themselves have turned it off. This takes place when we give free rein to a lot of negative feelings that little by little undermine that beautiful light that transmits a person full of gratitude.

We must learn to know ourselves, we all have strengths, virtues and we also have our Achilles heel, therefore, we must strive to have a balanced opinion of ourselves. We are not the best but we are not the worst either, so why feel bad when a person has a talent that we do not have? Is it not better to be content with that talent that person has and try to imitate him/her in the good sense to see if we can also acquire that ability? What is good must be copied and it is not a matter of not being us, but simply to cultivate the necessary humility to recognize that we do not have that gift, but that we can work in order to have it. If we achieve it, excellent, and if not, humility will also help us to understand that we cannot, instead of envying the person, we admire him/her.

It will not always be easy to understand many issues in life, but the truth is, we must uproot any resentment we have and avoid at all costs to be envious people, otherwise we will become people lacking in self-light that will only project darkness and will always be accompanied by unhappiness.
