Doon West Windmill Walks in West Coast of Ireland
How cool are wind mills?
Those who regularly read my posts will realise that I love going for walks and I especially love going for walks with my family at the weekend when we all have a little bit more time than we do during the week.
we're pretty blessed with where we live here on Galway on the west coast of Ireland on the edge of a really picture-esque place called Connemara. Tourists flock here from the US, Europe and further afield, so we are lucky to call this home.
We have tons of different options for walks locally right on our doorstep. We've got a beautiful lake which I walk to every morning but equally if we decide to jump in the car there are lots of really cool places we can drive to ona ten to twenty mile car journey.
One of these places is known as Doon West and there are lots of windmills scattered amongst the forestry and loads of walks intertwined between them for the general public to enjoy. We can drive there in around fifteen minutes.
Hopefully my photos which follow will give you a feel for just how beautiful these walks are.
The Power of Nature
I'm a big fan of windmills. I always have been. Since the first time I saw them in America and in Germany many years ago, I've loved them. There's just something about the way they look big and huge on the landscape.
What's better is that they generate huge amounts of electricity just from wind energy that's blown past every day. For me that's so much better than the likes of nuclear power which is generating nuclear waste for generations to come in the core of the nuclear reactor or fossil fuels which are poisoning our atmosphere. Wind energy is clean. I appreciate there is some collateral damage in building and constructing them, but the net benefit is far better than most other energy sources.
Family in the distance
If you have read my posts for long enough you know that I don't tend to post photos of myself or my wife, or my kids at least not ones where you can make them out. It's one thing posting photos of myself, but I don't like posting photos of my kids if I don't have their consent. I'm not comfortable putting photos of them up on the internet in general.
Different Perspective
I always like taking photographs from different perspectives. One in particular that I like is to put the phone down on the ground and take the photo from there. They seem to come out pretty well. Let me know what you think in the comments below.
Floating Road
Fuck knows what a Floating Road is, but said I'd share it with ye anyway.
Hearing the Swoosh
I got a really cool video from directly under the blades too where you could hear them swooshing by. Here are some stills from the video.
A few more shots
I'll Close out the post with a few more photos that we took on the Walk. If you ever make it to the west coast of Ireland be sure to check out the windmill walk up in Doon West.
