Loads of Sport and Guinness for Beer Saturday

Rain rain go away, come back another day...

Holy mother of God will it ever stop raining???? Here in Ireland, we've had nothing but constant rain in November December January February and now it's continued into March. We had a relatively dry week and I was hopeful that this would continue, but no such luck unfortunately.

The onslaught of rain has a few consequences. Our kids are less inclined to play outside, resulting in too much screen time.

We don't get out and about in nature as much as a family. It's much nice to do these things on a dry day rather than being out battling the elements.

The final consequence is the affect on Sports played locally, with grass pitches regularly closed.

And if closed pitches aren't bad enough, we also lose out on golf, as my local course is completely saturated, meaning lots of emails like the one below being sent out.

This morning once again it absolutely tipped down rain and I had my son's under eights training at 9:30 followed by my other son's under 11 training at 11. I finished up at 12:30 after three hours of training the kids, grabbed my golf clubs and hit the course, but low and behold the lads I was supposed to play with had rained off and it was the last slot for the day. I decided to still play a few holes for practice and was hitting it fairly well, but the weather was atrocious, so I just played 6 holes and hit for home. There was loads of Sport on, so it wouldn't be a bad day to sit inside I suppose.

St. Patrick's Day Parade

Whatever about the rain today, I really hope the weather is nice tomorrow as our boys are going to be going in the Galway Saint Patrick's Day parade for their local soccer team Salthill Devo. All five of us are going to march in it so that should be fun. We did it last year as well and the kids had a great time.

We might go somewhere then afterwards for some lunch and maybe a pint or two for the day that's in it!

Sport on the telly

Will there was no shortage of Sport on the telly anyway. Galway were playing Dublin in the GAA Gaelic Football, but unfortunately fell short of Victory, with Dublin taking the spoils and deservedly so.

We've also got the golf in TPC Sawgrass where best of the Irish Rory McIlroy had a great opening round in the Player's Championship, followed by a sloppy round yesterday, leaving him on -6. He'll need to find a round in the mid 60s today to get himself back in contention and I can see him shooting 67 or lower which would be enough to get him back in contention.

Currently I'm watching Ireland battling it out against Scotland in our final Six Nations match.

It's been a great game so far but it's not all going Ireland's way. Scotland are very much in the match. Ireland did manage to get in for a try from a very lucky lineout that the Scot's got badly wrong and Dan Sheehan was waiting at the end of the lineiut to grab the ball and get over for an easy try that Scotland will be kicking themselves about.

As things stand, there's only one point in it, but I fancy Ireland to find their form and win this one by around 8 or 9 points in the end.

Sports be damned! I need a dry few days to get me onions in the ground. Surely it's gotta stop tomorrow!

Happy St Patrick's day. As I sat in the pub last night drinking a pint of Guinness, with a chaser of Rebreast Whiskey I was discussing this upcoming Rugby game with our Irish bartender. Might even head back in today for a few more Pints.

Ah good man. Hopefully the Guinness was nice and creamy and the Red Breast was the 12 year old - that's a great Whiskey. Good to hear from ya man, hope all is good over your way.

I am not sure I am even going to wear green tomorrow. It will be a game time decision. This is going to be a pretty lame St. Patrick's day for me. I might have to toss back a shot of Jameson just to call it good.

So did ya knock back a Jameson in the end and how did the game go?

I can't remember if I mentioned it 20 times already but I have a good friend in Banagher which I understand is about an hour from you? We had many a beer when he lived here a few years and we even got him playing ice hockey with us.

Man before I die, I gotta have a Guinness in Ireland!

Brilliant!! We'll come visit him some time and I'll come down and meet ye or ye come up to Galway for a night. The Guinness will flow and the Craic will be mighty.
