My Journey to 13,000 Hive Power and lessons learned along the way

13,000 Hive Power and another milestone

Another milestone on the ongoing growth story was hit today. I must admit it took a little bit longer than recent 1,000Ks but part of the reasoning for this is the fact that I have been transferring lots of my earned HBD into the savings account. A return of 20% is fantastic and with 13K of Hive Power secured and still growing, I'll turn my attention now to growing my HBD stack.

For now though let me turn my attention to hitting another Hive Power target, as 13K is surpassed. It's amazing who much easier it is to accumulate another 1K when you have 10K and more, as compared to the graft and effort in the early days when you only have less than 100 Hive Power.

image.png

I like to give new users some advice whenever I do these milestone posts and hopefully it lands on somebodies trending or new posts page and they learn some tricks of the trade that I'd love to have understood way back in early January 2018 when my own Hive journey started. Shit, that's almost six years ago now! Crazy....

New User Advise

It's a while ago now, but when I started out here on Hive and I was looking at some of the bigger accounts, I was thinking I'll never reach those heights. I would include 10k+ account as big at that time, so now here I am, sure it has taken a lot of time, but here I am and every bit of my journey has been natural growth from upvotes too. Hearty thanks to all my Hive buddies for that. It's always nice to give something back though and on my 12K update post, I gave some advise, so let me reiterate some of that and update and enhance it too. So here goes again.

For any new users reading this and wondering how can one get to 5 figures Hive Power, the first thing I'll say is that there is no quick and easy way, I'll say that again, there is no easy way, that is without dipping into your pockets and putting some skin in the game, which although is advised, is not an option for everyone.

If you want to invest fiat currency day 1, around $/€3,000 would do it and to be honest, it would be an excellent investment if you were willing to invest the time and energy into the platform. However, if you are like many who join Hive and you want to grow from nothing, then hard work and engagement are the secret sauce of growth around here. Remember though on day 1, nobody has a clue who you are and may not care unless you have something interesting to say or engage on their posts. In fact I'd say that engagement in those early days is essential whether you are investing $3K or nothing.

So often what we see is people falling into the trap of seeing content returning high yields and trying to copy or better it, and then they are disheartened that their posts make sweet F A or sometimes no return at all. These people fail to realise that they are posting into the abyss and in those early days they are essentially invisible, as they have no followers and nobody knows they exist. The best thing to do in those early days is to start off for maybe the first month by engaging with users, by reading loads and loads of posts and making meaningful and thoughtful comments, yes folks meaningful and thoughtful comments. That's the key.

Build up a rapport with people, gain some followers, and then after maybe one month of doing this, and learning along the way, start making posts, perhaps one per week to begin with, including an introductory post to tell people all about you. Personally I didn't do this and I was pretty pissed when my posts made little to nothing in those early days, even though to my eyes they were better than others that returned more and I n hindsight they were better, but the difference was I had not built up a following.

So before you start posting your latest and greatest, think about what your passions are. Think about what you like to talk to your friends about. Try to incorporate this and your individualism into your posts. Don't try to copy someone else, as you will not be able to do them better than themselves and may come across as insincere and unauthentic. What better thing can you do than play yourself?

Let me let you in on a little secret though, Hive people are spot on and as we say in Ireland they are the Salt of the Earth. What does Salt of the Earth mean? It means decent, honest, trustworthy and dependable and that's how I view my closest friends and contacts on Hive.

In my opinion, you won't find anyplace else on the internet with more helpful people than Hive. The central premise of the whole site wants you to succeed here on Hive. Time and time again I see the sharing of excellent advise and strategies, so if you are new, do try to heed the advise, trust me, it will really help you in the long run.

There are always those who think they know it all, and don't heed advise, but trust me, if you are starting out here, listen to the advise and I can guarantee you that you will do better than those who think they know it all already. Nobody is trying to trick you or hoodwink you (well unless they are a scammer!!) so just listen to helpful advise.

My Own Growth

Now moving on from new users and some advise, let's get back to my own growth to 13K HP. How did I get here? Well posting every day for the first six to seven months of the year has certainly helped.

I must admit now that I've eased up recently and these days, four or five posts is a good return, although sometimes when I'm talkative I can post daily.

To be honest though, engaging with the community and starting off my own mini community Three Tune Tuesday has been instrumental and has really helped with my username becoming pretty well known in the Hive world, at least I hope that's the case anyway.

Ok let's get a shameless plug in here now. What is Three Tunes Tuesday you might ask?

20210504_140532.jpg

Well every Tuesday music lovers from around the world get together under the following hashtag #ttt to share three tunes that they really like, three tunes that they have a little story about, three tunes that they've recently listened to, three tunes that they listened to a long time ago or my favorite of all, three tunes that they've written themselves and share under the tag, although we don't see many of them anymore.

I try to listen to them all and drop a comment, although I must admit that has become increasingly harder due to work and family commitments, so forgive me if I don't comment on your #ttt post, but 99% of the time I'll upvote it!

To be honest though, I'm hugely proud of Three Tune Tuesday and have given up three tunes now every week for 132 weeks, so I'd hate to break that cycle.

At the end of each week, we give out a prize in the form of ten shares of HBI. I absolutely love it. What started out as just me sharing three songs into the Hive ether a couple years ago has grown slowly at first with a few people join in me and we are now up to having approximately thirty unique entries every week.

I get to hear really cool tunes from a cool bunch of people every week, but the only tricky part is trying to pick a winner from all the worthy participants. If you're reading this and you've never had a go then why not join us this week on Tuesday with your three tunes?

I guarantee that you'll meet some really cool people from every corner of the globe and you'll enjoy the tunes that are shared by others. It's an excellent way to engage and get to know others too. Just click on either tag #ttt #threetunetuesday to find out more.

Meagre Beginnings

There are a lot of us out there in the Hive world that started off with 5 Hive and basically grew organically from there. In a lot of ways it is the hardest way to grow and really buying 1000/2000/5000 Hive right at the beginning is a much better idea, as that first 1000 is by far and away the hardest to accumulate and it actually took me years, but back then my posting quality was not as good as today and I posted sporadically. If you are just starting off and have <1000 HP, honestly just make the initial investment to get over 1000HP and a few years down the line, you can take back out that seed money if you wish. Were I to start again, this is most certainly the approach that I would take and get that growth going nice and quickly.

I formed a habit a while back, where I post almost every day and that has paid off for me and paved the way from my continued growth here on Hive and I couldn't be happier. It is always good to observe some Power users here on Hive and learn from them. It's akin to learning from a senior engineer or a young up and coming sports star learning from guys that have been at the top for years.

It honestly doesn't feel like that long ago since I had under 1,000 Hive Power and having grown my account from scratch that first 1,000 was without a doubt the most difficult to accumulate. What has happened since then has been unbelievable. As I said, I committed to posting every day of the week and I fairly quickly hit and passed other milestones, each one coming a little quicker than the last. 2,000 did take a while alright, but nothing in comparison to the first 1,000. Then, in early 2022 I passed 3,000, March to be exact. I wrote a post about that actually and 81 days later I hit another milestone, as I accelerated past 4,000 Hive Power, I think that was some time in May 2022, and 5,000 came around mid June 2022 I think, followed by 6,000 Hive Power on August 1st 2022. Somewhere along the way I lost the support of a brilliant and very kind whale, which slowed the progress a little, but I dusted myself down and on September 28th 2022 I passed through the 7,000 barrier. Another 53 days passed and on November 20th 2022 I hit another milestone of 8,000 HP. January 24th 2023 saw me smash past 9,000 Hive Power. April 16th 2023 was the day that I finally hit five figures of Hive Power and that was a serious milestone for me. Then I kept growing and on June 22nd, I have hit 11,000 HP and that felt sweet, and now today just over two months later on August 23rd I have hit 12,000 Hive Power which is another incredible milestone. Today on December 8th, I have reached 13,000 Hive Power which is absolutely massive.

Here is the Power up

image.png

And the new balance - Boom!!!

image.png

As I mentioned earlier, I have not ploughed everything into Hive Power as per usual. No, instead I have been putting a good chunk into HBD, and as you will see below, it is growing nicely over the past few months. Below is today's transfer bringing me up to 130HBD squirreled away.

image.png

HBD savings at 11K HP

image.png

HBD savings at 12K HP

image.png

As you can see that latest jump has been considerable and the plan is to keep growing and compounding at this rate, so long as the return is 20%

20% APR and low risk

As I said above, I have some HBD cooking away making me a yield of 20% APR and I believe everyone should squirrel a little bit away as 20% is considerable and it's also handy to be able to liquidate in 3 days if the need arises in day to day life. Luckily for me I have never touched any Hive and it is all still here in my acount accumulating and compounding. Hopefully that will continue to be the case.

Spreading The Word

Screenshot_20220327-111034_Gallery.jpg

I'm a talker, you may have noticed! Every day blabbing on about this and that! So, it should not come as a surprise to learn that I've always been one to tell family and friends about Hive and Crypto in general and for a long time this was met with raised eyebrows and blank expressions, but lately people want to know more and the barriers to getting in are constantly lowering. The 20% APR mentioned above is a perfect example of how to attract people, not 124,678% APR for some Johnny Come lately mad coin or token that is highly speculative. Bitcoin and other alts have been on a surge of late, so I expect Hive to catch a tailwind towards €1 Hive sooner rather than later.

Most investments are in some way speculative and pretty much all Crypto is speculative, but it is a matter of being cute and considered with just how speculative you want to be.

I hold other coins in Crypto and I often consider liquidating the lot and pumping them into Hive. I could more than double my Hive holdings overnight or invest in HBD and watch my investment grow by 20% each year. Another thought is to liquidate some of those coins if they hit a certain level in this bull market and use the funds for a new kitchen or tarmac around our house in Galway.

Thanks to the Community

It goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway. Thanks a million to all of my friends on Hive for your kind support over the past six years. It's very much appreciated, and I look forward to growing with you all for the rest of 2023 and beyond.

This eco system of ours is built upon sharing, kindness and engagement and it is heartening to see so much genuine engagement and interaction across the various communities and groups.

In my opinion there is no other place online where people are so helpful and altruistic. Let's keep it that way and look out for each other and support each other. On that note, I am going to wrap things up.

As always Thanks for reading.

The images used throughout are all my own captured on my Samsung Smartphone

Thanks as always for stopping by everyone.

Peace Out

That's one great post! Starting out here I decided to do things "organically" back in Feb of this year. At first my initial goal was to just fund my Splinterlands play, but found so many other interesting things that I forgot about the initial goal. Since then I've hit almost 1700 Hive power, occasionally I'll put in a few dollars I've taken from profits elsewhere, but most is from engagement. I agree it's possible with persistence! I also feel I can honestly recruit people by showing them what I've managed to do organically with not much up front investment.

I think putting in three thousand dollars or euros is a great way to start out with some HP, but it can be done with hard work! I now have entirely new goal and I can't wait to reach them.

Nice one man, it's cool to hear about other people's journeys and what their targets are. Doing it organically is pretty cool, albeit slower than if you have some fiat to pump in too.

One of the great great things about Hive is that you literally can start with nothing and invest nothing and build your way up. Admittedly, if I were to do it again I probably would to speed things up but was so obsessed with the idea of crypto being a scam that I couldn't. I would now though.

Congrats man!

Ya it's how I first happened upon Give, the thought of posting and getting paid for it nearly sounded too good to be true.

I was the same years ago believing Bitcoin initially to be a massive pyramid scheme. Oh well, hindsight is 20 20.

I thought the same about Bitcoin, I never dreamed I would actually own any. I dont even think I had heard of altcoins when I discovered Steemit!

Congrats man! I decided early on to experiment with the HBD savings and it paid off in low risk return as you said. Keeping an eye on things though. But again congrats! The feeling is awesome and enjoy it !

For sure! Took a long while but we got there. Amazing this platform ! Life changing in fact. Your growth is also incredible as your account is much younger than mine if I am not mistaken.

Same. People might think it is too good to be true? But I also read a recent post about how we are struggling to get content consumers here as well.

wow
This is a great motivation for me personally. I’ve really been thinking that those who’s hp are above 10k are those who bought a big chunk. Keep up the good work I’m sure soon you’ll hit 20 k and it’ll still feel like yesterday.

Can’t wait to hit my first 1K. Had to use my hp for some emergency but I’m going to keep pushing until I reach my first 1K and see where things goes from there.

Thanks man. The more your account grows, the easier it gets to grow. Your curation rewards increase and that 2.91% interest on $10k and above works out well. You're also more likely to attract the support of other $10K+ accounts, which is just juman nature.

I'm definitely proud to have grown to 13K though from that initial 5HP that we as borrowed to me.

Some great advice there man for new people. Interacting with people's posts is one of the best ways to show support to users, and keep them motivated in their endeavors. It's tough to hit everyone's posts, but trying to hit a few every day/ couple of days is good for new people, especially to spread themselves around a bit and see what Hive has to offer, in terms of communities and potential content to produce.

Also, joining some Discord servers is a good way to chat in real-time/ ask questions when unsure about certain things here. It overwhelmed me a bit when I first joined, but thanks to Discord, and the very helpful community, I was able to understand it pretty quickly. Too right man, salt of the Earth.

Three Tune Tuesday has been instrumental

I'm delighted for you man, and I love reading these milestone posts of yours, about your humble beginnings up to where you're at now. I started the same way, I wanted to get gain my power naturally, and you're right, that first 1,000 is so tough. I joined in December 2021, and in January 2022, I decided to attempt daily posting for the year and got to about May before I broke the chain. January 2023 though, I decided to go for it again, and I'm only 23 days away from the badge now. Woop. I also hit 8k at the start of the month, which is unbelievable. I think I earned 5.4k HP naturally and bought the rest, and that's one of the best decisions I think I've made while here.

I've been thinking of cashing in some other crypto holdings and powering up too, but I bought in high during the last bull run, so I'm holding everything until I can break even on it, or at least come close to it.

100% man and you're good in that regard yourself with engaging and meaningful comments like this one you left me.

Ya discord is a good shout too actually. I used to be active on that, but had to give it up, as it was too distracting for me for work, as I'm on line all day for work.

You're flying it dude, especially given you're here only two years. Hats off man.

I don't think it should be too easy to earn Hive if we want it to have value, but it is still small and it will change as it grows. I started off making nothing and built up by being active. You're on the right track. Keep it up.

Yes, valid point.

Over the coming years it will become tougher to acquire through posting and the like.

In fact people may look back at people like us as very fortunate to have had the chance to accumulate and stack Hive and HBD in the early days.

Exactly! If it grows massively then even becoming a minnow will be hard, but then the token price should go up. We early adopters should benefit. It will bring fresh challenges though.
