My Top 5 songs of 2021

It's the 31st day of the twelfth month of the 2022nd year since JC met his maker. That's hard to believe. It really doesn't feel like all that long ago that I was on a night out in a pub in Galway ringing in the new millennium on 31st December 1999. It would have been sweet to be a bit older back then, with a tech savvy and business savvy head. The farce that was Y2K could have set you up for life as a small IT company!

Anyway the theme of today's post is neither Y2K, nor youthful pints in Galway city in late December 1999 - rather it is a post about music and more specifically about my top songs from 2021. The idea came from @stevelivingston a little over a week ago, and I heard about it through @blanchy. When I get tagged on something like this I try my best to respond, even if sometimes it takes a while (PS, @@@trucklife-family, I'm not forgetting that get to know me post you tagged me in, I will get to it!)

The Tunes

Right then, back to the savage tunage. I'm getting a squiggly red line under tunage telling me it's not a word, well it is now.. It is never easy to pick a top 5 of anything, and if you ask me again tomorrow or even later on today, the list may well look different.

1. The War On Drugs - Living Proof

2. Noname - Rainforest

3. Declan O'Rourke - Stars Over Kinvara

4. Brockhampton - Buzzcut (ft. Danny Brown)

5. Foo Fighters - Waiting On A War

Lots of time and effort

Even though to the casual observer this post may look short and easy to come up with, truth be told, I spent over two hours over listening back over some songs that I remember from 2021 and have now shared them with you, so just remember that word count is not the only measure of a good post.

I'll sign off by saying thanks to all of the musical artists I shared above - hopefully this post will drive a few clicks and maybe gain some new fans for these artists. 2020 and 2021 have been so very challenging for our creative friends - please remember this and try to support some creative types in your local community - buy that CD/Vinyl, order that t-shirt, book that family photo-shoot, buy that book of poems. It can be easy to under estimate the importance of the arts - they tell our stories and are the heartbeat of society capturing us in song, paint and words. Thank you so much to all of the artists - I hope 2022 is best yet.

Gotta love some Foo Fighters! 🙂🎵 I haven't heard of the other four bands though, but then, I'm not really hip with new, modern music haha. I think the newest thing on my playlist is from 2012. 😂 This is the first time I've heard this Foo Fighters song too!

I'm missing out.

Ha ha, I love music, so try to keep somewhat up to date with some music, when I can and usually it'll be a marathon on music on YouTube or Spotify for hours some night and then nothing again for months.

Ah a Foo Fighters fan, excellent 🤟🤟

I've seen them live a few times and they put on an unreal show.

You did a great job curating this list, it must have been tough. The animated video of buzzcut caught my attention, then, noname rainforest has this cool afro-kinda vibe on the drums. Foo fighters actually did something amazing with the rise in tempo, i didn't see that coming... I am new in this community and I'm liking it already

Nice! Only know 1 of the songs you posted 😆 Foo Fighters of course 🤘 Really loved what you said about the importance of the arts and supporting creative folks in these dark times as they were one of the most affected professions.

Music helped me a lot during confinement times so a Shout Out to all the artists out there that managed to keep going through the difficulties 🙌

Amen to that, music is amazing in so many ways and it's a tricky trade these days and most aspiring musicians never make it or need to work 2nd and 3rd jobs..

Foo Fighters are a great band aren't they, Dave Grohl is a class front man and of course he was in Nirvana as well, another favorite band of mine. I was lucky enough to see Foo Fighters live a few times and they were class!

Nirvana!! Oh what a nostalgia feeling... Listened a lot of them when I was in highschool. And also System of a Down (my favorite), Metallica, Scorpions, AC/DC, Slipknot...

I had a rock and metall fase in my teens 🤣🤣 Today I still listen a lot of System but not as regularly. I had a ticket to see them live in Portugal in 2020 but then the pandemic started and it was postponed 😭 Hopefully that festival will still be donne once the pandemic is over 🤞🤞
