It was a cool evening in the 1970s. I was walking with my mother through the stores in Warsaw, near her apartment in the center of the capital.
Through a shop window my eyes focused on that pair of intercoms, and I did not stop until I managed to buy them and bring them to Cuba, in order to have a new way to communicate with my friends in the neighborhood.

Dear Antiques & Vintage community. Today I want to tell you about this vintage equipment used for intercommunication between two people.
It has been 45 years since its purchase, and I keep it at home as that treasure that when you see it brings back memories of an important part of your life.

Everything that happens in childhood, marks us and impregnates us in our consciousness, so strongly, that years can pass and we still remember it.

Our neuronal system of the nervous system, at that age, has a very pronounced neuroplasticity. Every external stimulus that comes to us with emotion, is recorded with force, like that music we recorded on a magnetic tape cassette, which in the year 2023, is still able to delight our ears with the quality of its sound.

This equipment of the brand MINIFON TONSIL, model W 66, was a novelty that gave us a lot of joy.

At that time, the most common form of interpersonal communication was to use two cans joined by means of a stretched cord. Something very practical and simple that a certain generation can remember.

Mi primer intercomunicador fue Polaco

Era una tarde fresca de los años setenta. Paseaba con mi madre por las tiendas de Varsovia, cerca de su apartamento en el centro de la capital.
A través de una vitrina mis ojos se centraron en aquel par de intercomunicadores, y no paré hasta que conseguí comprarlos y traerlos a Cuba, para tener una nueva forma de comunicarme con mis amigos del barrio.

Querida comunidad Antiques & Vintage. Hoy quiero hablarles de este equipo vintage utilizado para la intercomunicación entre dos personas.
Han pasado 45 años desde su compra, y lo guardo en casa como ese tesoro que cuando lo ves te trae recuerdos de una parte importante de tu vida.

Todo lo que ocurre en la infancia, nos marca y se impregna en nuestra conciencia, con tanta fuerza, que pueden pasar años y aún lo recordamos.

Nuestro sistema neuronal del sistema nervioso, a esa edad, tiene una neuroplasticidad muy pronunciada. Todo estímulo externo que nos llega con emoción, se graba con fuerza, como aquella música que grabamos en un casete de cinta magnética, que en el año 2023, todavía es capaz de deleitar nuestros oídos con la calidad de su sonido.

Este equipo de la marca MINIFON TONSIL, modelo W 66, fue una novedad que nos dio muchas alegrías.

En aquella época, la forma más común de comunicación interpersonal era utilizar dos latas unidas mediante un cordón estirado. Algo muy práctico y sencillo que cierta generación puede recordar.

The MINIFON consists of two units, which are connected by a thin bifilar cable of several meters.
Its operation is simple, you press the switch on its central side to talk, and release it when you want the other person to answer you.

This system of pressing and releasing a button, in spite of the years, is maintained in the current wireless Walkie Talkies; those that work with radio frequencies. They use alert buzzers, headphone output, light, and you can even receive notification of environmental, maritime and air status.

As you can see, inside the equipment we see 4 sections: in the second, we see the round speaker, similar to those used in analog rotary dial telephones. This leaves the brand, model and country of manufacture in relief.

El MINIFON está integrado por dos unidades, las que están unidas por un cable bifilar fino de varios metros.
Su operación es sencilla, aprietas el interruptor de su parte lateral central para hablar, y lo sueltas cuando deseas que la otra persona te responda.

Este sistema de apretar y soltar un botón, a pesar de los años, se mantiene en los Walkie Talkies actuales inalámbricos; los que funcionan con frecuencias radiales. Usan timbres de alerta, salida para audífonos, luz, y hasta puedes recibir notificación del estado ambiental, marítimo y aéreo.

Como pueden apreciar, en el interior del equipo vemos 4 secciones: en la segunda, vemos el speaker redondo, parecido a los que usaban los teléfonos analógicos de disco giratorio. Este deja a relieve la marca, modelo y país de fabricación.

In the first section, we have a printed circuit composed of a transistor, a capacitor and a variable resistor.

In the third section, we find the pressure switch, which allows the transmission and reception of the voice.

In the fourth section, we have the space where a square and flat battery of 4.5 volts of direct current or DC was inserted.
Years without seeing that type of battery. At that time, they were widely used in various electronic devices sold in Europe, such as flashlights.

En la primera sección, un circuito impreso, integrado por un transistor, un condensador, y una resistencia variable.

En la tercera, encontramos el interruptor de presión, que permite la transmisión y recepción de la voz.

En la cuarta sección, tenemos el espacio donde se insertaba una batería cuadrada y plana, de 4.5 volt de corriente directa o DC.
Años sin ver ese tipo de baterías. En esa época, eran muy usadas en varios equipos electrónicos que se vendían en Europa, ejemplo: linternas.

I remember that in the backyard of my house I used to set up a nice tent house. There we would spend the day playing with our neighborhood friends.
Those were moments of adventure, full of happiness, brotherhood, and where we enjoyed every detail, with the simple and easy things of that time.

There were nights when my friends, with the permission of their families, we slept in that tent. And this intercom was my parents' way of communicating with us.

We were kids, and from that camping trip, we felt like we were in an adventure and exploration movie, in the style of the 1985 film The Goonies.
The adrenaline of doing different and innovative things to the usual routine was a balm for our souls.

Friends, such a team, which I keep with such a beautiful memory, could not pass into oblivion, without sharing its story with you.

Recuerdo que en el patio de mi jardín armaba una bonita casa de campaña. Ahí pasábamos el día jugando con nuestros amigos del vecindario.
Eran momentos de aventura, llenos de felicidad, hermandad, y donde disfrutábamos cada detalle, con las cosas simples y sencillas de ese tiempo.

Hubo noches donde mis amigos, con el permiso de sus familias, dormíamos en esa tienda. Y este intercomunicador, era la vía para que mis padres se comunicaran con nosotros.

Éramos niños, que desde ese acampado, sentíamos que estábamos en una película de aventura y exploración, al estilo del filme Los Goonies de 1985.
La adrenalina de hacer cosas diferentes e innovadoras a la rutina habitual, era un bálsamo para nuestras almas.

Amigos, un equipo así, que conservo con tan lindo recuerdo, no podía pasar al olvido, sin que compartiera su historia con ustedes.
