"Sheer Driving Pleasure"... And Raindrops

What was your favorite car when you were a kid? Mine was the Lamborghini Diablo. I guess I was less than seven years old when I fell in love with it. I didn't even know it was called Diablo because I'd probably "choose a new favorite one" otherwise.

Time went by, and as I started to grow, I began "falling in love" with BMWs. However, by the time I was 18, I had filled my room with Bimmer posters, but there was no penny in my pocket to actually buy one. I obtained my driver's license when I was 20 years old, and my first car was an Opel Corsa 1.4 petrol engine.

Life's a bitch, I know... It still is quite challenging for me to date.

Anyway, I have a friend who owns a beautiful 2015 BMW X5 with a 3.0 diesel biturbo engine. It's the Individual variant with plenty of extras—probably all—and a potent 313 HP engine under the hood that propels the 2.5-ton sport SUV to 100 km/h in under six seconds.

This was sports car territory when I was a kid, but now SUVs can match such performance too. Such performance comes at a cost, though. If you ask me, a 3-liter engine is quite "tiny" for that big and luxurious SUV.

I'd put at least a 4-liter diesel under that hood, but to keep emissions "under control" and achieve decent mileage (10 liters/100 km externally), they had to mount two turbines on the engine and opt for lighter but more fragile materials for the engine. This is how the legendary BMWs are turning into subpar cars.

You may ask why. Well, I have a friend who had a 5 series with the same engine, and by the time he sold the damn grand tour, the thing had already gone through three engine replacements. It seems that there are issues with an oil pressure sensor, the oil pump, and probably too much power for a three-liter diesel, making the N57 a quite unreliable engine.

As long as it works, it's a pleasure to drive. I've driven both the 5 series mentioned above and the X5 that I'm dedicating this photography post to.

I've been driving an Audi for a bit over two years now, a rather old one, and I had an even older model before it. My father also has an A4, and I can tell you for sure that Audis are boring as heck. Mercedes may have bland interiors, but they're probably the most comfortable German brand. However, BMW is hard to match.

Hence, my tribute to it through the following pics. I thought at first to make the post monochrome, but then again, I felt like some of you might want to see these in their true colors as well. The car was pretty dirty, so the pics are mostly of the exterior.
