The Secret Sauce

In about three weeks from now, I will be onboarding someone to Hive. I am talking about it on my blog because it's something I'm not doing too often. This friend of mine showed quite some interest lately towards crypto, and Hive in particular, and since he's a quite good English speaker I suggested he joins.

He's gonna be in town in a few weeks from now, with his laptop, and I will set him up for becoming a Hive blogger. I know, we're not making rocket science in here, but a bit of education would be necessary before he begins his journey as an Hiver.

One of the questions he addressed me when discussing about this was what do I blog about and my answer was that my blog is actually like a sauce, not much like one isolated ingredient. I don't believe in beating an old drum for too long because...

...I still remember that guy I was following on Steem about three-four years ago who was at some point asking his audience what should he post about next cuz the man was at that time at a point where he pretty much ended any Bitcoin article he could still write about. Bitcoin is a finite topic if you ask me, but Bitcoin's path in the world is a never-ending one.

Your blog should be like a secret sauce. Too many ingredients make it a mess, too few and it's not unique.

I like this quote and I try and stick with this reasoning as much as possible when it comes to my content posted on the blockchain through my blog. I remember another guy who was highly active on Steem, till the 2018 bear market hit, and the man was all over the place back then.

He was blogging about crypto, tourism, psychology, soccer, businesses, and almost anything you can imagine. He ended up becoming a dead account after a while. It was due to his content being more like "remastered articles" of other individuals than his own ideas and thoughts, and the bear market that killed his financial incentive to continue.

So far, I'm going through the second bear market in crypto and I'm still alive and well. I don't remember the last time I got writer's block and I haven't been shaken out by the low crypto prices either. I like what I'm doing and I've already digested the volatility crypto comes packed with.

So, I was talking about that secret sauce and I kind of lost the point on the way. The idea is that when it comes to blogging, and that applies to many other things in life, keeping things simple, but not too simple is oftentimes a good strategy.

Look at all the old and salted users of Hive. What do these have in common? They've created their own niche, they didn't borrow that from anyone, and made it simple enough so they don't make their life hard on staying consistent on the chain, but gave it(their blogs and niches) their own flavor mixed with their own secret ingredients so that they don't become over repetitive, boring or "mere replicas" of other content creators.

So, if any new user is reading this post, which I will send to my friend who wants to join Hive as well, my humble word of advice for staying consistent and relevant on Hive is to focus on your secret sauce. Too many ingredients make it a mess, too few and it's not unique. That's about it for today. I hope everyone is having a fantastic Saturday and see you next time.

Thanks for your attention,
Adrian

Regardless if his topics are all over the place (mine are as well but it is also dependent on what you expect your earnings to be), he should enjoy making them as a main thing.

I think especially in the beginning when rewards can be a bit disappointing every now and then, you need some sort of intrinsic motivation because otherwise it will feel like a drag sooner rather than later. If he enjoyes and mingles, it will fall into place eventually right?

Great advice to heed as a newbie. Things don't have to be overly difficult if you keep it simple enough and stick to the fundamentals.
