🌱Reflections on Time in Nature — Cerro Maspano, Aragua #Hill ⛰️

Visiting a hill I had a little reflection about time. Also, of course, I captured those landscapes in some photos while these reflections below came to my mind.

On this kind of hikes it is good to carry some kind of natural energizer, and there is nothing better than an orange to hydrate oneself under an embracing heat, characteristic here in the valleys of Aragua. While holding an orange seed in my hands and admiring the semi-rural landscape of the valley, almost without thinking, like something you do mechanically, I threw the orange seed down the mountain.

Visitando una pequeña montaña tuve una pequeña reflexión acerca del tiempo. También, por supuesto, capturé aquellos paisajes en algunas fotos mientras llegaban a mi mente estas reflexiones a continuación.

En este tipo de caminatas es bueno llevar algún tipo de energizante natural, y nada mejor que una naranja para hidratarse bajo un calor abrazador, característico de acá en los valles de Aragua. Mientras sostenía en mis manos una semilla de naranja y me encontraba admirando el paisaje semi-rural del valle, casi sin pensarlo, como algo que haces mecánicamente, lancé la semilla de naranja hacia abajo en la pequeña montaña.

Esta naranja que recién me había comido vino de quien sabe donde, cuya una de sus semillas terminó en una montaña gracias a mi, quien la lanzó allí sin pensar mucho al respecto. Y me puse a pensar: ¿Cuántos animales a lo largo de la historia evolutiva no habrán hecho lo mismo que yo hice pero de manera inconsciente? Llevar una semilla, una piedra, algo, de un punto a otro, y generar a partir de ello una serie infinita de cambios en el ambiente. And maybe one day someone will take an orange from that tree and leave a seed somewhere hundreds of miles away. Maybe that seed will never germinate and will end up made dust, but in the same way that dust will generate other changes, will be fertilizer for other plants or what do I know.

Esa semilla de naranja, quizás, si se dan las condiciones, puede generar todo un árbol en el futuro. Ese árbol puede servir de hogar a otros animales en el futuro, y miles de cosas más. Y quizás alguien algún día tome una naranja de ese árbol y deje una semilla en algún lugar a cientos de Kilómetros de allí. And the view of that valley, in which today we have a semi-rural landscape, maybe some day thousands of years ago some aborigine stood in the same place where I was and had some similar thought, in his own way. Maybe some of the stones where I stepped and sat were also touched by some dinosaur. Surely those trees did not exist and it is even probable that this small mountain did not exist even millions of years ago. Maybe as human beings we are fortunate that we are aware of the change we can generate?

Y la vista de aquel valle, en el cual hoy en día tenemos un paisaje semi-rural, quizás algún día hace miles de años algún aborigen se paró en el mismo sitio donde estuve yo y tuvo algún pensamiento similar, a su modo. Quizás alguna de las piedras en donde pisé y me senté también fue tocada por algún dinosaurio. Seguramente no existían aquellos árboles y es hasta probable que esta pequeña montaña no haya existido aún hace millones de años. ¿Quizás como seres humanos tenemos la fortuna de que somos conscientes del cambio que podemos generar?
