La tercera edad es algo de lo que solo algunos animales domésticos a casaros llegan a vivir, considero que los verdaderamente amados los gatos y perros en condiciones de calle solo llegan a esta edad si son cuidados y alimentados por algunas personas que se preocupen por ellos, en caso contrario el promedio de vida en la calle oscila en el rango de 3 a 5 años en el caso de los gatos, por otra parte, de las crías que tiene una gata en condición de calle, solo unos cuantos llegan a la edad adulta por los múltiples factores a los que se ven expuestos, entre ellos peligros y enfermedades

Hace ya no sé cuántos años uno de nuestros gatos anteriores, de nombre Catire, llego un día a casa acompañado de una gata calicó que de ser alimentada en la puerta paso a vivir dentro de casa y que adopto a mi mamá, si ella adoptó a mi madre.

Esta gata hace unos 4 años fue diagnosticada con artrosis, fue allí que supimos que no era una gata joven, pues esta patología suele afectar no solo a humanos de la tercera edad, también a los animales, entre las recomendaciones que nos dieron estaba el que ella no podía subir más de peso porque eso aumentaría más el dolor en sus articulaciones y agravaría más su condición.

Esta gata siempre ha tenido un carácter particular, de hecho en un comienzo apenas se dejaba tocar o acariciar y por lo regular había que retirar rápidamente las manos porque era muy probable que mordiera, pero ella al final se adaptó y aunque todavía tiene su carácter ya tiene muchos años con nosotros.

Hace unas semanas les comenté que Kapuy otra de mis gatas, estaba muy triste tras la muerte de mi madre y no quería comer, Manchita no perdió el apetito, pero antes de la muerte de mi madre notábamos que había perdido peso y no por falta de alimentación, es como si ya su cuerpo estuviera dejando ver que los años no pasan en vano, de hecho también está perdiendo pelo, esto ya le había pasado una vez, pero ante la duda de su era algo alérgico le di unos dos baños con champú medicado y se solucionó el problema.

El tema aquí es que esta anciana a veces juega y corre, como todos los gatos suelen hacerlo a ciertas horas, pero también se le ve padecer por su edad, por ejemplo tenía flojo, un colmillo inferior, presumo que eso le causaba dolor y eso ha hecho que ella no pueda comer croquetas, es decir ella tiene apetito, pero estos alimentos duros le causan dolores en sus dientes y encías y por ello he optado por darle más alimento húmedo.

Aunque hace ya un mes que mi madre falleció todavía ella se para detrás de la puerta a llamarla y me pide que le abra puerta del cuarto, eso quiere decir que no se ha olvidado de ella, tal vez mi error no fue permitir que ellos se despidieran de ella, que se percataran realmente de que había muerto y por eso ellos todavía la esperan, o eso es lo creo.

En resumen, la vejez se hace cada vez más evidente en esta linda gatita, me da tristeza verla delgada y trato en la media de lo posible que se sienta cómoda y caliente porque sé que el frío no le ayuda en lo absoluto y también le hago cariño, pues estoy segura de que extraña mucho a mi madre quien era su humana favorita. This cat about 4 years ago was diagnosed with osteoarthritis, it was there that we knew that she was not a young cat, because this pathology usually affects not only elderly humans, but also animals, among the recommendations we were given was that she could not gain more weight because that would increase the pain in her joints and aggravate her condition.

This cat has always had a particular character, in fact in the beginning she would barely let herself be touched or petted and usually we had to remove her hands quickly because it was very likely that she would bite, but she eventually adapted and although she still has her character she has been with us for many years.

A few weeks ago I told you that Kapuy, another of my cats, was very sad after the death of my mother and did not want to eat, Manchita did not lose her appetite, but before the death of my mother we noticed that she had lost weight and not for lack of food, it is as if her body was already showing that the years do not pass in vain, in fact she is also losing hair, this had already happened to her once, but when I doubted if it was something allergic I gave her two baths with medicated shampoo and the problem was solved.

The issue here is that this old lady sometimes plays and runs, as all cats usually do at certain times, but she is also suffering because of her age, for example she had a loose lower fang, I presume that caused her pain and that has made her unable to eat kibble, that is she has an appetite, but these hard foods cause pain in her teeth and gums and therefore I have chosen to give her more wet food.

Although it has been a month since my mother passed away she still stands behind the door to call her and asks me to open the door to the room, that means that she has not forgotten her, maybe my mistake was not allowing them to say goodbye to her, to really realize that she had died and that is why they are still waiting for her, or that is what I think.

In short, old age is becoming more and more evident in this cute kitty, it makes me sad to see her thin and I try as much as possible to make her feel comfortable and warm because I know that the cold does not help her at all and I also make her love, because I am sure she misses my mother who was her favorite human.
