Hello friends animal lovers, as many of you already know, I love to go through this community on Saturdays to share with you some activity, thought or event related mainly to my cats, until the end of last year I had only one cat with urinary problems and I say had, because now there are two, I tell you what I lived the last days of the year 2022 with Pocholo.

Pocholo is one of my three male cats, he is a 5 years old Siamese and since he was a puppy he has been very nervous and until recently his only health problem was to suffer from gingivitis, a pathology that can affect any cat, but in the case of Siamese cats there is a genetic predisposition to suffer from it.

On two occasions Pocholo had already presented cystitis, I did not like this at all, because I knew that it could be the beginning of a urinary pathology and with all the experience with Señor Gato I do not wish that to any cat, but at the end of 2022 exactly on December 27th I noticed Pocholo very strange and I began to monitor him and there I noticed that he could not urinate, but this time I noticed that he had a lot of pain, he did not tolerate to be carried or touched the low area or near the stomach, because that area hurt him because of the inflation.

As expected I took him to the vet the next morning and they confirmed that he was obstructed, the first option they suggested was to probe him, but immediately I told the vet that I did not have the money to pay for a probe, as I know they are very expensive, I asked him to try to drain him without using a probe, fortunately he could and the vet emphasized that it was because I had realized it in time.

Now, the sound of the urine was like the sound of the faucet of a fully open toilet, my poor kitten had too much urine retained, but after draining him his mood changed immediately, they did a urine test and indeed Pocholo, like Señor Gato, produces struvite crystals. That same day he started treatment of antibiotic and anti-inflammatory injected for 12 days.

I imagine that they weighed thinking that 31 and first I did not take him, but yes, those days I also attended the clinic, because there is a detail with this type of treatment, if you miss a day you have to start the treatment again, so I made every effort not to miss any day of treatment, since I had to take advantage that I was still on vacation and I would not have problems to take him.

At the same time, Pocholo used an Elizabethan collar for a few days, to prevent him from having access to his intimate area, because in these cases the kittens usually lick themselves and that worsens the situation, on the other hand, as expected, he was prescribed the same diet as Señor Gato, which is not cheap at all, but it is cheaper than a visit to the vet for an emergency examination, a probe, hematology, blood chemistry, echo, to mention the first thing that comes to my mind, plus the whole month of January, they both have to take vitamin C.

Hola amigos amantes de los animales, como ya muchos saben, amo pasar por esta comunidad los sábados para compartir con ustedes alguna actividad, pensamiento o suceso relativo principalmente a mis gatos, hasta finales del año pasado tenía solo un gato con problemas urinarios y digo tenía, porque ahora son dos, les narro lo que viví los últimos días del año 2022 junto a Pocholo.

Pocholo, es uno de ms tres gatos machos, es un siamés de 5 años y desde cachorro se ha caracterizado por ser muy nervioso y hasta hace poco su único problema de salud era sufrir de gingivitis, una patología que si bien es cierto puede afectar a cualquier gato, en el caso de los siameses hay una predisposición genética para padecerla.

Ya en dos ocasiones Pocholo había presentado cistitis, esto no me gustaba para nada, pues sabia que podía ser el comienzo de una patología urinaria y con todo lo vivido con Señor Gato no le deseo eso a ningún gato, pero a finales del 2022 exactamente el 27 de diciembre note a Pocholo muy extraño y comencé a monitorearlo y allí note que no podía orinar, pero esta vez observe que tenía mucho dolor, no toleraba que se le cargara o se le tocara la zona baja o cercana al estómago, pues le dolía esa zona por la inflación.

Como era de esperarse lo lleve al veterinario a la mañana siguiente y me confirmaron que estaba obstruido, la primera opción que me plantearon fue sondearlo, pero de inmediato le dije al veterinario que no tenía el dinero para cancelar una sonda, pues sé que son muy costosas, le solicite que intentara drenarlo sin usar una sonda, afortunadamente se pudo y el veterinario hizo énfasis en que era porque yo me había dado cuenta a tiempo.

Ahora bien, el sonido del orine era como el del grifo de un baño abierto en su totalidad, tenía demasiado orine retenido mi pobre gatito, pero tras drenarlo su humor cambio de inmediato, le realizaron un examen de orina y efectivamente Pocholo, al igual que Señor Gato, produce cristales de estruvita. Ese mismo día comenzó tratamiento de antibiótico y antiinflamatorio inyectado durante 12 días.

Me imagino que pesaran pensando que 31 y primero no lo lleve, pero si, esos días también asistí a la clínica, pues hay un detalle con este tipo de tratamiento, si se falta un día hay que comenzar de nuevo el tratamiento, así que hice todo el esfuerzo para no faltar ningún día del tratamiento, ya que debía aprovechar que estaba todavía de vacaciones y no tendría problemas para llevarle.

Al mismo tiempo, Pocholo uso por unos días collar isabelino, para evitar que tuviera acceso a su zona íntima, porque en estos casos los mininos suelen lamerse y eso empeora la situación, por otro lado, como era de esperarse, se le indicó la misma dieta que a Señor Gato, que no es nada barata, pero sale más económico que una vista el veterinario por una emergencia exámenes, una sonda, hematología, química sanguínea, eco, por mencionar lo primero que me viene a la mente, además todo el mes de enero, les corresponde a ambos tomar vitamina C.

Finalmente, es vital estar atentos a los cambios que dan nuestros animales de compañía, pues si están comenzando con alguna enfermedad y el darnos cuenta a tiempo podría hacer la diferencia en muchos aspectos, ahora me despido esperando que ustedes me den el placer de leer sus impresiones y experiencias las cuales pueden dejar en el cajón de comentarios.
