Dcrops just shared a preview of the upcoming updates for the game. It’s another post about NFT games on top of Hive so best not to waste your time reading further if play-to-earn games isn’t your thing. For those that don’t know this farming game exists, you can check an old intro post I made about the game here.

Soon you will start receiving NFTs in your quest reward chests. These NFTs will be in the form of ores and materials which will be essential in crafting the different buildings and tools from the beta edition packs. The materials are: wood, stone, copper, iron, gold. These materials will be crafted into ingots which will be then used to craft different tools.

This means a slightly more active meta shift to rewarding players that participate in accomplishing these quests. I never bothered to learn how to do quests in the game for a simple reason of rewards not worth my time. The benefits of going through the planning and timing for a few CROP token bonuses isn’t worth it. But this new update makes me reconsider because crafting is hinted to be a crucial game mechanic on the future updates.

More than just an image file on top of a few lines of code, those NFTs can be worth more for their utility. It’s also worth considering to pursue because you only get one quest per season (every 15 days). So there is going to be a rarity especially when coupled with some RNG into the reward system.

In the BETA edition, blueprints of buildings/processing plants will be given out in packs. These blueprints will require lands and the materials above to be crafted. Thus the economy for these resources and materials will be completely player managed. There will be a post soon with the exact details on their drop rates and other details. More materials or other forms of NFT reward cards may be introduced into the game later on.

These lines add value to the ALPHA pack holders and early pack openers. I see this a win situation for those who whaled their resources from the early days and kept holding their harvested CROP. If history does repeat itself, it may take 2k CROP tokens to purchase a pack or 2$.

Something I’m also interested in knowing is the amount of land and seeds are existing in circulation. The game hasn’t revealed how many packs are opened and other related stats. This makes it difficult to gauge rarity especially when crafting new NFTS means burning preexisting ones. This artificial scarcity usually works if participants in the market knew how many in total are still in circulation for each kind.

Around 50k packs were launched during the alpha phase and each pack contained 5 cards. There’s no fixed value on how many land or seed of each kind can be printed. So even a common card can be relatively rare with respect to how many were printed out. I find this missing data interesting considering crafting may mean even common cards have potential increase in value for their rarity and utility in the game.

I still think land is the more important than seed cards because you can use this card throughout any season compared to a seed card that’s only usable once every four seasons. It’s always been a player driven economy as the pricing on the market has been volatile. It’s going to be more interesting as those with multiple accounts could mint more quest NFTs and really profit off the crafting meta that’s coming now.

Currently, the only ones that can benefit from the quest rewards are those who spend more playing the game against those that just don’t want to be bothered with minding the quests. The few CROP token bonus incentives make little difference if you already have a large farm to play with. The end point is just maximizing your harvest to get more pull for the season end rewards.

50k packs is a small amount compared to the potential growth of player demand once demand kicks in for the game. One of the limiting factors for the game’s growth is the slow developments and disappointment at being told that ALPHA packs are now only available from secondary markets (which can be more expensive). Hopefully BETA packs will have more max cap to accommodate more players.

If you made it this far reading, thank you for your time.
