Revisiting Some Financial Goals Beginning 2021

avatar

I finally got a small room to breathe after months of running a hectic schedule at work. The recent pumps on Hive price and looking at my own activity on the blockchain made me recall an old post sharing some financial goals at the start of 2021.

I put more money on crypto, got a stable job, have alternative sources of income, relatively financial stable, and still healthy. Those are my accomplishments financially so far.

Reflecting on the stupid shit I wrote months ago, I can’t believe I wrote this? Some parts I still believe in and some stuff are better left off not dwelling further in. A lot of financial plans got burned during the course of 2021. I didn’t expect I’d find myself unpaid for almost 3 quarters of this year due to bureaucratic issues.

In hindsight, if you’re just blogging as a hobby without thinking of the financial reward aspect of your use on the platform, you could still win by accumulation of tokens. I think this is the part where most really fail to see on the long term. When posts are earning below 1$ and the effort put into each isn’t proportional to the expectations set, it can be disheartening. But where else can you find opportunities like this where you can get handed free stake by those that have invested for you?

I’ll tell myself the same thing regarding the paragraph if I get to tell my past self. And guessing my future self would tell myself the same thing once the bear market hits and all this dopamine ride with all-time highs wear off.
I did accomplish some minor goals like buying a new set of tools for my hobby illustration.

It’s a self reward for being a government slave and now I can shit post more drawings on Hive. This was way back in August before I realized my department would undergo several changes in the schedule on a weekly basis because someone or some people need quarantine on top of the regular working schedule to pick up some slack. The past few weeks have been tiresome that squeezing in shitposting became less and less appealing.

I know I like to see more hive on my wallet and the prices rise up but I don’t want to sink into the mentality that it’s just posting to get the autovotes for putting out stuff I don’t really mean. I like the tips but don’t want to be conditioned with the dopamine source.

The next year’s goal would be purchasing this model or something better. So that I can finally take my work home and be more wage slave than I am now. These things cost like 3x more than my hobby tool but it would my life more convenient now that I can just finish my job at home.

No more unpaid overtime and working past midnight in the morgue (yes, the lab and morgue are connected and I work overtime if I’m not on the office). Buying a microscope is a commitment. It’s going to set me back financially and it’s the figurative equivalent to buying a car (in terms of career).

I’m glad HBD is set at 10% APR, this is like 40x better than what a regular savings account here would yield me if I park my money on the platform. It’s not a financial advice but this is one of the reasons why I bought more HBD. Did I mention that putting more money on crypto was one of the goals for the year?

I still have two to three more goals to check off the list before the year ends.

If you made it this far reading, thank you for your time.
