Homeschooling versus Traditional Schooling; Which Approach is More Effective?

Every parent wants the best for their children, and in pursuit of excellence they tend to make decisions that might be of great benefits to their children.

In the olden days, Education was not taken seriously as we have it today due to lack of civilization. The most common occupation then was farming. Every family had a farm and children were meant to help their parents with their farm work; that was the common trend.

When civilization came up, things began to change, and everyone began to embrace education due to it's advantage. I remember stories of how many children trekked long distances just to attend a school due limited number of schools.

In recent times, People now understand the importance of education. The importance of education can not be overemphasized in this current era. Apart from knowledge being acquired, it opens one up to opportunities.

Irrespective of the importance of education, There are lots of things that currently affects our education system which includes limited qualified teachers, Poor school infrastructure and so on. The challenge is that the government is not employing teachers as they ought to. Most the government schools have few teacher and these affect the quality of education given to students.

Due to this and many more reasons , those that are financially buoyant prefer to enroll their children in private schools so as to get the best of education while some parents go for home schooling, where they either teach their children themselves or employ a teacher to teach their children so as to oversee all that their children are being taught by the teacher.

Recently, I heard of a parent who choose home schooling for his children. His children have never attended any traditional school. They were all taught at home by the teacher they employed. It was quite strange to me when I heard it. When I ask why the parent choose homeschooling, the reason was because they don't want their children to get influence with bad attitudes from other children. They believe there are students with bad attitudes in traditional schools and they don't want them to influence their children. The funny part is that they don't allow their children to step out of the compound. Then my question is, how long will they do this?

Even though they are right, but I believe the method they choose is not the best. Home schooling is good but it will deprive the children from interacting with people. Many children might experience difficulty in interacting with people. They won't be able to express themselves which can be a huge problem later. You can't choose to hide a child under your roof just because you don't want them to get corrupted by other children.

There is an aspect of training and their is an aspect of being overprotective. When parents are overprotective, if care is not taken such children tends to have low self-esteem or not being confident to speak in public. There should be a balance at everything.

Education should not be limited to the four wall of the school. It should also continue at home. As parent, I would prefer enrolling my children in traditional school so that that they can interact with other children and I will also teach and scrutinize what they are taught, so as to ascertain the quality of education they receive.
