La historia se remonta al famoso héroe griego Heracles, uno de los hijos más reconocidos de Zeus y uno de los más torturados por Hera, esposa del rey del olimpo, quien sentía un gran desprecio por el semidiós al ser producto de la infidelidad de su esposo.

The story goes back to the famous Greek hero Heracles, one of the most recognized sons of Zeus and one of the most tortured by Hera, wife of the king of Olympus, who felt great contempt for the demigod as the product of her husband's infidelity.

A raíz de una ola de locura causada por la diosa, Heracles mato a su mujer y sus hijos, dejándolo hundido en el dolor y la desesperación, se le fue encomendadas 12 pruebas míticas, las cuales lo ayudarían a redimirse.

As a result of a wave of madness caused by the goddess, Heracles killed his wife and children, leaving him sunk in pain and despair, he was entrusted with 12 mythical tests, which would help him to redeem himself.

La primera tarea consistía en derrotar a un mítico león que habitaba Nemea, tras ser abandonado por la diosa de la Luna, Selene; dicho león se dio la gran vida apoderándose de la región, cazando a diestra y siniestra a cualquier animal o habitante que se cruzara por su camino.

The first task was to defeat a mythical lion that inhabited Nemea, after being abandoned by the goddess of the Moon, Selene; this lion took possession of the region, hunting left and right any animal or inhabitant that crossed his path.

Heracles al llegar a la ciudad, presencio los estragos causados por el temible León de Nemea, teniendo a toda la ciudad aterrorizada y prácticamente deshabitada.

When Heracles arrived at the city, he witnessed the ravages caused by the fearsome Lion of Nemea, having the whole city terrified and practically uninhabited.

En su camino se cruzó a un pastor de nombre Molorco, cuyo hijo había sido una de las tantas víctimas de la feroz bestia, este en su desespero estaba a punto de sacrificar un carnero en honor de la diosa Hera. Al apenas verlo, impidió el sacrificio en el acto, pidiendo que le diera un mes para matar al león. Si volvía, se le sacrificaba el animal a Zeus y si no, entonces el mismo Heracles se sacrificaría por su misión fracasada.

On his way he met a shepherd named Molorcus, whose son had been one of the many victims of the ferocious beast, who in his desperation was about to sacrifice a ram in honor of the goddess Hera. As soon as he saw it, he prevented the sacrifice on the spot, asking to be given a month to kill the lion. If he returned, the animal would be sacrificed to Zeus and if not, then Herakles himself would be sacrificed for his failed mission.

Fue entonces que partió monte arriba, donde se encontró cara a cara con el temible león; iniciando el enfrentamiento, Heracles lo ataco con una ráfaga de flejas que tan solo rebotaron al hacer contacto con la gruesa y resistente piel del animal.

It was then that he set off up the mountain, where he found himself face to face with the fearsome lion; initiating the confrontation, Heracles attacked it with a flurry of arrows that only bounced when they made contact with the thick and resistant skin of the animal.

Intentó atacarlo directamente con su espada de bronce, pero esta se dobló al encertar un solo golpe. Trato de herirlo con su mazo de olivo, pero igual resulto fue inútil; al comprobar que el león era inmune a todas sus armas, Heracles concluyó que la mejor opción era una pelea cuerpo a cuerpo.

He tried to attack it directly with his bronze sword, but it bent after a single blow. He tried to wound it with his olive mallet, but it was still useless; when he realized that the lion was immune to all his weapons, Heracles concluded that the best option was a hand-to-hand fight.

Heracles hizo retroceder al león hacia su cueva, la cual contaba con dos entradas, en un rápido movimiento bloqueo una de las entradas y logró acorralarlo en la oscuridad de la cueva, en donde lucho contra el animal hasta conseguir tomarle del cuello y con sus brazos finalmente estrangularlo.

Heracles made the lion retreat towards his cave, which had two entrances, in a quick movement he blocked one of the entrances and managed to corner him in the darkness of the cave, where he fought against the animal until he managed to grab him by the neck and finally strangle him with his arms.

Como trofeo, Heracles quiso despellejar al animal para quedarse con su piel, intentando por horas sin tener éxito alguno. Fue hasta que la diosa Atenea, disfrazada de una vieja bruja, le aconsejó que usara las mismas garras del animal, y con eso, pudo quitarle hasta la cabeza.

As a trophy, Heracles wanted to skin the animal to keep its skin, trying for hours without success. It was until the goddess Athena, disguised as an old witch, advised him to use the same claws of the animal, and with that, he was able to remove its head.

De esta forma, con una pequeña intervención divina, consiguió la piel del león, que desde ese momento vistió a modo de armadura, usando su cabeza como yelmo. Fungiendo como un escudo protector en el resto de sus misiones, con tal de recuperar su honor.

Thus, with a little divine intervention, he got the lion's skin, which from that moment on he wore as armor, using its head as a helmet, serving as a protective shield in the rest of his missions, in order to regain his honor.

Tras el épico enfrentamiento y por la petición de la diosa de la luna, Zeus decidió premiar al león, otorgándole su lugar en el firmamento, creando la constelación de Leo, desde donde se puede apreciar como surca majestuosamente el resto de las estrellas.

After the epic confrontation and by the request of the goddess of the moon, Zeus decided to reward the lion, giving him his place in the firmament, creating the constellation of Leo, from where you can see how he majestically furrows the rest of the stars.
