I Don't Advice Tomato Stems To Be Uprooted In Dry Season (ENG-ESP) No aconsejo arrancar los tallos de los tomates en la estación seca

As dry season is almost over and rain has rained three times this year. It's a very big time to know we have entered a new farming season. Even without being told, elders of the land has started to share land to their children to use and farm.

I believe that most farmers usually complain about dry season because they believe it has a bad factor as most of their planted crops and vegetables may no longer do fine while some will die. We farmers should not only see the bad side of dry season because it also has a good side. The good side of dry season is that it helps to add manure to the soil through old harvested stems. It's one of the ways seeds of flowering plants and fruits usually germinate on their own. Dry season usually dry most of those seeds stems and from there, they'll fall under surrounding environments of the planted vegetable or crops. As rains has dropped, the seeds of tomato will start to germinate on its own.

It's not every plant that was dried during the dry season that we'll uproot or weed because some of them may germinate back as rainy season start. Even if they don't grow back from their old stems, surely some of their seeds which fell down during dry season will germinate to replace the old one. Plants like tomatoes, pepper, garden egg, maize, rice, and many others has the habits of doing such not miding anything.

I believe there was a time I showed you a tomatoes that was totally dried due to dry season and bad environment. I made it clear that some soil environment are not fine for growing of tomatoes. The tomatoes was almost planted where stones are everywhere and because they was no longer rain, it dried. I added soil or sand to the tomatoes roots because it was exposed to the sun. This new farming season, it has rained three times, it was that the roots of the tomatoes which I covered with soil was washed again by the rain. I believe the roots of the tomatoes is very much alive and will survive again by the time it keep raining.

Actually, I never believed that the tomatoes roots will be alive because that was not the reason why I have not weeded it out or uprooted it out of the soil the time I saw it dried due to dry season. I allowed the tomatoes because of the seeds. I knew it's never a good thing to remove dried tomatoes stems from the soil because it may germinate and the seeds that fell down will surely germinate. I believe that if a dried tomatoes stems it uprooted from its environment, there's no way the farmer will not wish to clear the environment using a rake or shovel. By clearing and burning the dried tomato stems, the seeds which fell doing on its surroundings during dry season will all die and never to germinate again.

It's easy for those dried tomatoes seeds that fell down on their own to germinate anytime they see rain touch them. So, a farmer should make sure not to uproot her tomatoes stems or even burning the environment. To grow new tomatoes seeds for planting is not that easy.

La estación seca está a punto de terminar y este año ha llovido tres veces. Es un gran momento saber que hemos entrado en una nueva temporada agrícola. Incluso sin habérselo dicho, los ancianos de la tierra han empezado a compartir tierras con sus hijos para que las usen y cultiven.

Creo que la mayoría de los agricultores suelen quejarse de la estación seca porque creen que tiene un factor negativo, ya que la mayoría de sus cultivos y hortalizas plantados pueden dejar de ir bien y algunos morirán. Los agricultores no sólo debemos ver el lado malo de la estación seca, porque también tiene un lado bueno. El lado bueno de la estación seca es que ayuda a añadir abono al suelo a través de los tallos viejos cosechados. Es una de las formas en que las semillas de las plantas con flor y los frutos suelen germinar por sí solas. La estación seca suele secar la mayoría de los tallos de esas semillas y, a partir de ahí, caerán bajo los entornos circundantes de las hortalizas o cultivos plantados. Cuando caen las lluvias, las semillas de tomate empiezan a germinar solas.

No arrancaremos o escardaremos todas las plantas que se hayan secado durante la estación seca, porque algunas pueden volver a germinar cuando empiece la estación lluviosa. Aunque no vuelvan a crecer de sus viejos tallos, seguro que algunas de las semillas que cayeron durante la estación seca germinarán para sustituir a las viejas. Plantas como el tomate, el pimiento, el huevo de huerta, el maíz, el arroz y muchas otras tienen la costumbre de hacerlo sin mediar nada.

Creo que hubo una vez que te mostré un tomate que estaba totalmente seco debido a la estación seca y el mal ambiente. Dejé claro que algunos suelos no son adecuados para el cultivo de tomates. Los tomates estaban casi plantados donde hay piedras por todas partes y como ya no llovía, se secaron. Añadí tierra o arena a las raíces de los tomates porque estaban expuestas al sol. Esta nueva temporada agrícola, ha llovido tres veces, fue que las raíces de los tomates que cubrí con tierra se lavó de nuevo por la lluvia. Creo que las raices de los tomates estan muy vivas y volveran a sobrevivir cuando siga lloviendo.

En realidad, nunca creí que las raíces de los tomates estuvieran vivas porque esa no fue la razón por la que no las arranqué del suelo cuando vi que se secaban debido a la estación seca. Permití los tomates por las semillas. Sabía que nunca es bueno quitar los tallos de los tomates secos de la tierra porque pueden germinar y las semillas que cayeron seguramente germinarán. Creo que si se arranca un tallo de tomate seco de su entorno, es imposible que el agricultor no quiera limpiarlo con un rastrillo o una pala. Al limpiar y quemar los tallos de tomate seco, las semillas que cayeron en su entorno durante la estación seca morirán y nunca volverán a germinar.

Es fácil que esas semillas de tomates secos que se cayeron solas germinen cada vez que vean que la lluvia las toca. Por eso, el agricultor debe asegurarse de no arrancar los tallos de sus tomates ni quemar el entorno. Cultivar nuevas semillas de tomates para plantar no es tan fácil.
