On Christmas morning the Hero Boy wakes up in his bed knowing that the previous night had not been a dream, together with his family they open the gifts and his younger sister Sarah discovers a last gift behind the tree, which was from Santa for his brother. When he opens it, he discovers with joy that it is the bell he had lost, he shakes it and feels happy when he listens to it, then he passes it on to his sister who also listens to it.

When he shows it to his parents, they uselessly wave the bell and think it doesn't work, but it was all a product of the fact that, as adults, the child's parents no longer believed in the spirit of Christmas. Finally the voice of the child is heard as an adult narrating that, for a time, all his friends heard the tinkling of that bell, but as time passed and they grew up, everyone stopped hearing it, even his sister Sarah discovered one Christmas that she could no longer hear the sound of that bell. But he, as an adult, continued to hear that sound clearly, as well as all the people who believe in the spirit of Christmas.

The Christmas Carol, The Ghosts Scrooge - El Cuento de Navidad, Los fantasmas Scrooge

Ebenezer Scrooge a bitter and miserable old moneylender, has everything that embodies the joy and spirit of Christmas in rebellion, refusing to visit his merry nephew at Christmas dinner with his family and reluctantly giving up and denying his underpaid employee Bob Cratchit on the day off to spend Christmas with loved ones. That night Scrooge is visited by the ghost of his old partner, Jacob Marley who died seven years before Christmas Eve and is forced to spend his afterlife wearing heavy chains forged from his own greedy way. Marley warns Scrooge that he will suffer an even worse fate if he does not repent, and predicts that he will be haunted by three spirits who will help him reflect and guide him.

The first spirit, the Spirit of Christmas Past, shows Scrooge visions of his own past that take place around Christmas time, reminding him of how he ended up being the miser he is now. He had spent much of his childhood forgotten by his father during the Christmas holidays in boarding school until he was finally brought home to his sister Fan, who died prematurely after giving birth to his nephew, Fred. Scrooge later began a successful career in business and money lending and became engaged to a beautiful woman named Belle, though she later called off the engagement when Ebenezer began to grow obsessed with accumulating his own wealth. Unable to bear having to witness those memories again, Scrooge quenches the spirit, like a flame.

The second spirit, the Spirit of Christmas Present, shows Scrooge the happiness of his fellow men on Christmas Day. Among them are his nephew Fred, who jokingly taunts his family at Scrooge's expense, and Bob Cratchit and his family, who are barely able to get by on how little Scrooge pays Cratchit. Scrooge is touched by Cratchit's sick son, Tim, and his commitment to the spirit of Christmas, and the spirit reveals that he doesn't have long to live. Before dying, Scrooge's spirit warns of the evils of ignorance and need, which manifest before Scrooge as two angry and bestial children who are doomed to become violent, insane individuals.

The third and final spirit, the Spirit of Christmas to Come, shows Scrooge the ultimate consequences of his ambition and even plays with him a couple of times (being chased through the streets in a dark horse-drawn carriage). Scrooge sees in this future that he has died, although there is more joy than pain in his death, the men who attend his funeral only go for a free lunch. Furthermore, Scrooge is robbed by his ex-maid, and even stripped of the clothes in which he was buried, and little Tim has also died, leaving Bob Cratchit and his family in tears at Christmas. Unwilling to allow this bleak future to happen, Scrooge asks to be given a second chance as the spirit forces him to his deep grave and fall into his coffin, sitting atop the fires of Hell.

Scrooge awakens to find himself in bed on Christmas morning, the three spirits who guided him through a night, and immediately sets out to atone for his sins, making donations to the poor, attending his nephew Fred's dinner, and giving Cratchit a lift to take care of his family, allowing Tim to live. Scrooge spends the rest of his life as a new man embodying the spirit of Christmas.
