Hello everyone, I hope you're all doing well, and that you're having a great weekend. I'm doing alright, though there are some things on my mind. Yesterday I attended my brother-in-law's Marriage Ceremony at Prekombel in Kandal Province and I was glad to be there when I joined them. It was their special day.

The ceremony took place over two days, which is less than the basic three-day traditional Cambodian wedding ceremony because if we prepared for three days, it would take more time and cost too much money so we decided to cut one day off.

The guest at the groom side sitting waiting for the music display, well a traditional music what I mean. Choosing music on this ceremony is very important, they have to make sure the songs is only means the good vibes which brings luck. In Cambodia, we already prepared the variety of songs that fit for this ceremony so I think choosing the songs isn't a big deal.

I guess you might wonder what it's called on the table. The green costume which make from banana leaf calls Bayseii. Bayseii usually made into 3 section and all of them prepared by banana leaf as a layer. Then, as it made from leaf, it isn't last longer, however the ceremony just initiated for two days, so we don't worries at all.

For another version of Bayseii, they make it by paying and paint it as a gold color so it will last longer and Cambodia also used them for Buddhist ceremony too.

Let's me introduce you about this two day ceremony! The first day in the evening was for entering the marriage ceremony, we follow all the Cambodian weddings tradition such as Hair cutting, Honoring to ancestors, Monk Blessings ceremony and more. For the second day in the morning was for procession followed by a party and eating together with dancing at night.

Hair Cutting

When I mentioned the hair cut, I think it was a bit confused. Well, the hair cut is cutting by the parents of the Groom and Bride. They have a tool in hand for cutting by the fact is that they only cut a piece of hair just about 1 or 3 cm.

On the day of the wedding, we were all excited to get together and celebrate with our families. It was a beautiful ceremony, and I'm so glad I got to be a part of it.

We were able to meet with the Archbishop that evening and talk about how the ceremony would go. We discussed what we would say, how long each part would last, and what we wanted to do with the rings after they were exchanged. The Archbishop was very helpful in making sure everything went smoothly!

The involved with one lady and one gentleman, there role is to sing and dance. The gentleman have a microphone with him as to make a funny jokes. Well, a funny jokes because during this ceremony it is important to make everybody in a good mood even though it is a busy work.

On the same evening of their wedding, the Archbishop asked the bride and groom to choose whatever fruit on the plate to serve their parents. They chose bananas, so he asked them to peel the bananas and feed them to their mothers and fathers. This is a Cambodian tradition that symbolizes respect for parents, who are considered sacred in this country.
