"The Moth left home searching for a meal. It couldn't become one!"

Weaving the Devouring Trap

Stuck. The Moth struggled to escape. Its wings, its legs, rebounded against the sticky bonds.

The moth's eyes screamed as it saw the huntress closing in. Her sharp eight legs shrilled like knives.

It left home searching for a meal. It couldn't become one!

Stuck. It struggled harder. The stickiness of the strings only strengthened.

The huntress smaller than the Moth, started to weave. Her strings grew thicker and thicker.

The Moth struggled. It suffocated. Muscles waned. Joints almost broke.

The Moth finally surrendered...

The huntress took a bites and chewed on, as her white deadly strings devoured the Prey.

The End

Author Notes

This story is an entry to Week 2 of Dreemport challenge for June 2023. Prompt: "Thread." Since the theme of the second week is making a series, I decided to continue the story I wrote for the first week but couldn't publish in time.

So, this is a companion story to "Weaving Her Home" that I published a few days ago. It could be a sequel or a prequel. The Huntress in this story should be "Spidey" from the story before, but you could read this standalone.

I enjoyed making the art for the cover too, I wanted to make it similar but darker than the cover for "Weaving Her Home." The tone here is darker than the first one, after all.

What do you think?

I loved writing this drabble, I almost want to make these drabbles a weekly thing. Though it went through many changes. I wanted to use the bonus Prompt "Pride" but I couldn't fit it into the story by the time I finished it...

Oh, by the way: A lot of people have Arachnophobia. Do you have the Fear of Spiders? Answer in comments.~

So sad it ended up as a meal after all the struggles.

I appreciate the beneficiary addition. Thank you.

Yeah, animal kindom is fascinating, there are always hunters and preys, but it's sad when you view the story from the victim's perspective. At least the Moth fought until the end.

Yes it did, losing was what hurt, it would have been better it surrendered at the beginning

Oouch.... Though the huntress was smaller, it was able to weave itself round the moth.
Well descriptive and interesting.

Thank you for sharing

Well, the story is too common in the animal kingdom, so I had to be descriptive for it to feel unique enough. Hope I succeeded.

What a beautiful entry. I like it. 😍 Anyway, I'm not afraid of spiders... Unless the big one. 😅

Thanks for reading. Thanks for enjoying reading this. Have you read the other story linked in this post? https://ecency.com/hive-199275/@ahmadmanga/weaving-her-home-short-story

I too am only afraid of Big Spiders, and I find smaller ones cute, (as long as they don't walk on my body.)

Not yet. Just this one.

And as long as they don't bite us. I don't want to have some web coming out of my body. Lol. Feeling spiderman. 😂

Yes, I heard people have the fear but I haven't seen anyone around me that does. I would love to though.

Thanks for beneficiary gift.

I have a fear of Cockroaches, but not Spiders. (It's also why I understand why Phobias are called "Irrational" fears. Spiders are more dangerous than Cockroaches.) Thanks for reading this story too, and hope to see you in another article.

This shows the everyday experience of animals in the animal kingdom and the predator/prey relationship that exists between them.

Poor moth ended up in the hands of her predator. Hehe. I enjoyed reading this.

I tried to be realistic about it. No good or evil, just everyday survival. (Which is why my favorite line: "It left home searching for a meal, it can't become one!") Have you read the other story? I wrote them as companions to each other: https://peakd.com/hive-199275/@ahmadmanga/weaving-the-devouring-trap-short

Unlucky moth.

Short and precise, unfortunately I have some kind of phobia for spiders which put me in a state of sympathy for the moth😓

Phibias are called "irrational" fears because they don't follow logic. I don't have fear of spiders, but I have fear of cockroaches, and I guess most people have at least one Phobia or something.

I just imagined how it was struggling effortlessly knowing fully well that he would be a meal to the spider, his struggles never seen the light of day. So sad! Great article, although it is small, I love it cause its magical!
