A college student's Market experience

(Edited)

Hello #marketfriday Hivers!🤗
This is my very first time to post here on this community which is hosted by Ms.Denise @dswiggle. I learned of this community from my mom @jurich60 and a fellow hiver @leeart. There are so many communities here in hive that I have yet to know about.🤭
This is very timely that I came across this community because I will share my son's first market experience as an independent college student living far away from us.
My son is my only child who came out seven years after we got married. We never had the opportunity to have another one. My husband and I really wanted to have another perhaps a daughter so our son won't be alone but I think now we are way passed that already. I am turning 48 now this March and my hubby will turn 52 this September so I think it's already late for us to have another child if ever there is a chance. Our gray hair are already showing specially hubby's so having one people would think the child is our grandchild plus we feel lots of squeaks all over our bodies too... haha!
Anyways, since my son is the only one I do all the marketing for us ever since. Sometimes I let him go with me just so he knows what real life is really all about. It's not just sitting on the table and waiting for the food to be served. I want him to see where his food comes from mostly during the farmers market day but that was when he was in his elementary days. When he was in high school, his studies comes first so he rarely goes with me when I do some marketing.
He has been away from us since August last year, he is studying in the highlands of Baguio city, the home town of @leeart. The city is really perfect and conducive for learning plus there are good universities in Baguio city compared to Manila which is really a rally everyday.
When he got there he often buys food mostly in the big malls and in the fast food chains which is really very costly. Prices of commodities there up in the highlands is really more expensive compared to us here in the plains.
Earlier today, like 5am hubby and I were awakened to the ringing of my phone. My son was calling me via messenger when I answered it I was really surprised because he was already in the market buying vegetables and meat and other stuff that he needs! I told him, are you okay?? This is not you! Haha. It's a video call so we can see him roaming around the market buying stuff. For a mom I was really so happy that my son is now a grown-up and he said he was already fed up with the meals in KFC, McDonald's, our local brands like Jollibee and Mang Inasal, Chowking among others. He said he wanted to cook his own meals so he can save some money on his allowance. Me and hubby were both looking at each other dumbfounded... Haha. He was asking what other vegetables can he cook as omelettes.
He said he was looking at YouTube for some economical and easy to prepare meals that is under his budget as a student.
I told him to send me some photos of the things that he bought.

He even made a photo shoot of his vegetables and other stuff he bought because I told him I will make a blog out of his experience, so he happily obliged and here is his food photography. His models, presenting two trays of eggs, onions, garlic. He even bought a can opener and an egg beater. He bought some smoked fish too but he forgot to send me the photos of it. He said I was in a hurry Mama because today, February 24 is our second day of our prelims exam. That's why I went to the market past 4am. Omg!
My husband now said, what happened to you son? Have you eaten something? Why out of the blue you are there very early in the market and already doing some marketing?!!are you sick or something?😄😄🤭

He showed us the place where coffee beans can be bought and that this is the place where coffee shop owners go to for their coffee.
He said he wants to try how to make his own coffee because the weather in the highlands is really cold and sipping a hot cup of coffee or chocolate drink is really very comforting.

Welcome to #MarketFriday! So glad to see you here! It is true, there are so many different communities and you will find the ones that suit you best or that you enjoy. If there is any piece of advice I can give you, it would be this: Post about things you know or love. When everyone first starts, of course, we are interested to see how much money we can earn. In the beginning, you won't get a lot of money, not as a normal rule. So, enjoy what you are doing! It is not a job, but, it is best if you are consistent in your posting. It doesn't have to be every day, but, not long gaps in between. You want people to recognize you! Good luck and remember if you ever need help, you have two good people to fall back on and of course, you can always ask me also.

You must be a proud mama! We all have children and raise them in a way to make them strong and independent on their own. See how he longs for homemade food? That is a score for you! He wants what he is used to and saving comes naturally with how you brought him up, obviously. I actually would have thought that Manila would have more to offer than Bagiuo. I stand corrected. He did a great job selecting vegetables and his photography! Well done! :) I look forward to reading from you again!

I add the #MarketFriday guidelines to each post, it is nothing you did wrong that I needed to correct. I put them in every comment I make. :)

I think it is important that you know how much I appreciate the time and effort put into posts. Thank you for your participating in #MarketFriday! I enjoy learning about your world and how it is to live in it. I find it interesting to compare standards, but, more than standards, by how we find the quality of our life with different indicators that the world does. It is not always about the wealth in money but includes many other things including being as healthy as possible, and being educated, but, not necessarily in school. I feel like a person is educated if they acquire knowledge and use it for the better good and happiness of the society they are living in. It is with great pleasure that I read through this and all of the posts, with these thoughts in mind.

I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to get to know you and your piece of the world just a little bit better. I have learned so much about the different cultures of the world, I especially love the small things in life and make a point to give them notice. Life has been interesting for me this week, and I hope your week has found you happy and healthy, as we all look to prosper in our way of life.

I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world. Please take the time to read a couple of #MarketFriday posts and leave a genuine comment behind. It is important to interact within the community, allowing others to bond with each other. The fun is in getting to know people and making a positive contribution to community life. I am pretty sure that is why I joined Hive. All this fun and money too. What if not to love?

Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:

Rules of the Road to Join #MarketFriday!

  1. Go to the market, or anywhere that you pay money for a service. It can be a movie, an auction, or even a museum. Wherever money is exchanged for a service or product.
    Take pictures! Be creative!
  2. Tell us a little bit about the market or the event. What brought you there? What did you buy? How much did it cost? Was it expensive? Did it go up or down? A scroll of pictures with few words doesn't usually work.
  3. Post the pictures. Of course, you should tell a little bit about the ones you post, it is too difficult to guess about some.
  4. Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post (#hive-196308) This is not required but appreciated.
PLEASE Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it!!
  5. Following me and reblogging the post would be appreciated, but not a rule, more vision for more views on the #MarketFriday posts!
    7. You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post.

As always, please remember! #MarketFriday loves you!

Thank you so much for the kind words, the warm welcome and the advices, I will all bear them in mind Ms. Denise.
Yah, I was really surprised and amazed at my son... Haha

Manila has many good and big universities compared to Baguio but we favored the latter because of not too much traffic and less crowded compared to Manila and of course the cool wonderful weather of Baguio and it's beautiful scenery is a bonus.

Yes, you will see me around again.
Have a wonderful day Ms. Denise 🤗🥰
