I'm Rubber, You're Glue - Ladies of Hive Entry 284

Not everyone in a party will like you and that is something I learned over time. There are moments when people say negative things even when you are just minding your own business. It can feel uncomfortable but how you react matters more than what they say. This is the topic of today's post in relations to Ladies of Hive contest.

"You are at a party, and someone is saying derogatory remarks (or negative things) about you. How would you deal with it, or what would you do?"

If someone is saying negative things to my face, I usually do not take it too seriously. I laugh or make a small joke about it and that's it. This already happened to me before and I noticed that after I do that, no one takes it seriously. When you do not react in an angry way, the other person loses the reaction they are expecting. It also shows that their words do not have power over me.

If the situation is more about rumors and I do not know who started it, I just ignore it. It's 2026 and everyone, including me, now have short attention spans so issues fade quickly if no one fuels the flame. If I do not react or talk about it, the topic just disappears on its own. Some people enjoy drama and reacting only gives them more reason to continue. It does not even matter if you are right or wrong because once you react, people think you are being defensive. If you're defensive, then you're guilty. So, I don't need to react to the bad things if people already decided I'm the bad guy. Let them think what they want to think

I also believe that reacting too much can make things worse. When you try to explain yourself to everyone, it can look like you are trying too hard. Instead of clearing your name, it may only add more noise. That is why I choose silence in those situations. Silence does not mean I accept what they say. It just means I don't care enough and the rumor doesn't matter.

Lastly, I only genuinely care about the opinions of people who truly matter to me. If the person saying those things is a friend, I would talk to them directly. I might even laugh at first but I would still ask them why they said it. That kind of conversation is important because those are real relationships.

If they are not part of my life then they're just noises and noises are things we ignore to focus on things that truly matter.

You are right, some people want drama and attention, so reacting would satisfy their need, and make you the guilty one. Thank you for this, !LADY💖

Yeah, I've been in situations where I defended my self and that didn't turn out well.
