Visit to Aya Eleni Church /// Aya Elena Kilisesi Ziyareti (EN-TR)

It has always been good for me to wander through the hazy pages of history. But sometimes I feel the need to get out of these pages and touch history. Old buildings help me in this regard.

Tarihin puslu sayfaları arasında dolaşmak bana daima iyi gelmiştir. Fakat bazen bu sayfalar arasından çıkıp tarihe dokunma ihtiyacı hissederim. Eski yapılar bu konuda bana yardımcı olur.

Aya Eleni Kilisesi'ne gittiğimde kendimi 327 yılında buldum. Dönemin Bizans imparatoru Konstantinus'un annesi Helena, hac yapmak için Kudüs'e doğru yola çıkmıştı. Yolunun üzerinde ilk Hristiyanlık dönemine ait oyma mabetelerin bolca bulunduğu bir yer vardı. Bunları gördüğünde kendisi de buraya bir kilise yaptırmak istedi.

The Church of Hagia Eleni, which dates back to ancient times, attracted my attention. After walking around the building, I moved inside. I was very curious about the inside of the church. Probably many historical artifacts from that period were exhibited here.

Tarihi çok eskiye dayanan Aya Eleni Kilisesi oldukça dikkatimi çekmişti. Yapının etrafını dolaştıktan sonra içeriye doğru hareket ettim. Kilisenin içini çok merak ediyordum. Muhtemelen o dönemden kalma birçok tarihi eser burada sergileniyordu.

In the church's promotional booklet, it was written that the building had been repaired many times. There was a sign about this at the entrance of the church. The sign mentioned a renovation during the Ottoman Empire. According to the booklet, the last renovation was in 2010.

Kilisenin tanıtım kitapçığında yapının birçok kez onarımdan geçtiği yazıyordu. Kilisenin girişinde de bununla ilgili bir tabela vardı. Tabelada Osmanlı İmparatorluğu zamanında yapılmış bir tadilattan bahsediyordu. Kitapçığa göre son tadilat ise 2010 yılında yapılmıştı.

The first thing that caught my attention was the decorations inside the church. After examining them for a while, I looked around. There were many groups inside. One of these crowded groups was getting information about the history of the church with a guide. I got as close to them as I could, so I got more detailed information.

İlk dikkatimi çeken şey kilisenin içerisindeki süslemeler oldu. Bunları bir süre inceledikten sonra etrafa göz attım. İçeride birçok gurup vardı. Bu kalabalık guruplardan biri rehber eşliğinde kilisenin tarihiyle ilgili bilgiler alıyordu. Elimden geldiğince onlara yakın oldum. Bu sayede daha detaylı bilgiler edindim.

The historical artifacts inside the church had survived until today. According to the guide, some of them were donated to be exhibited in the Church of St. Eleni.

Kilisenin içinde yer alan tarihi eserler günümüze kadar gelmeyi başarmıştı. Rehberin anlattığına göre bunlardan bazıları Aya Eleni Kilisesinde sergilenmek üzere bağışlanmıştı.

I left after taking a photo that would remind me of the time I was in the church. It was a nice visit. If you are ever in Konya, you should definitely visit Sille. Apart from Aya Eleni Church; there are many places to visit in this region such as Time Museum, City Museum, Devil's Bridge, Historical Baths and mosques.
