My most Cherished Family Tradition LOH #59

(Edited)
It's the beginning of the last month of the year, of December! I'm super excited and you can tell why. It's that time where events and festivities fill the air. The cool harmattan breeze, laden with dust sometimes and the celebration feelings. I'm so mushy as I type. I also feel like crying in excitement.

The year gets so busy that once the time of life steps into December, a wind of relaxation blows in.

I get to see a large percentage of my family members during the Christmas holidays.
We don't just celebrate Christ's birth, we celebrate our lives, progress and achievements within the year in review.

From childhood to being an adult, the family tradition has remained, only that with adulthood comes the never ending job and sometimes still stuck at work even by year end. It's not easy being a Doctor 😔

Towards third week of December, we have all our bags packed, set to get to our home town. In the weeks that preceded it, my mom and I would go the market to purchase nice outfits, then foodstuffs like a bag of rice, a keg or groundnut oil, a carton of tomato paste, and plenty orishirishi.

Arriving our hometown, we'd clean and clear the grasses in the compound. Go round to greet people who reside in the village and keep the atmosphere set for celebrations.

We usually get shiny fancy lights and music, Christmas themed music especially.
We make delicacies and prepare lots of meats (cow, goat, chicken, rabbit.. apologies to vegetarians) and veggies. We also make random snacks and our native delicacies. I have a few pictures.

Some random snack we saw on the net and decided to try out 😆

My native delicacy, my favorite.

Sneak peak of my food.

We keep our doors open as extended relatives from far and near troop in.
We feast, we recall good times and make amends for offenses.
There's usually lots of dishes to wash at the end of the day.

On the following Sunday, we go for family Thanksgiving in Church, each taking turn to recount of God's faithfulness in our individual nuclear families.

Heading to church for Thanksgiving.

It's usually a sort after period as that's one time we get to see ourselves together in a place for a day in the entire year.

@mukoro would you please share with us your most cherished family tradition during the festive season?🤗
