COFFEE ANTHEM: "Hopefully it will rain coffee in the countryside"

A big hug to the entire coffee-loving community. This week we have a rather challenging question: If coffee had an anthem, what do you think it would be?

Definitely if there is a song which I could consider an anthem about coffee, for me it would be Juan Luis Guerra's song, Ojalá que llueva café en el campo (Hopefully it will rain coffee in the countryside). This song expresses the joy that it would be for people if coffee was plentiful, with which the great majority would be happy.

For an ordinary person, a morning without coffee is like waking up without joy. Coffee becomes a healthy addiction, there are even people who cannot conceive their life without coffee and when they need it they say they have a headache. For them coffee is an analgesic for both physical and spiritual pains.

What would happen if it rains coffee in the countryside?

I imagine the scene that the singer poses and immediately comes to my mind people smiling, singing and dancing. In the countryside many foods are produced that reach the tables of homes in the cities and towns. If it rained coffee in the countryside it is most likely that not only would they have a daily supply of coffee in their homes but it would also reach the city spreading the joy that a cup of coffee transmits.

My mother has a few coffee plants in the backyard of her house and every time she harvests them I can see the joy she gets from getting her own product. Coffee processed at home and even more so coffee produced in the countryside has a different taste. Whoever has tasted a coffee roasted in the Venezuelan plains knows that its flavor is unequaled, it is that flavor of the people, it is extraordinary. I have not yet tasted a commercial coffee that reaches that unique and incomparable flavor.

This song is also a vindication of the economic struggles of farm workers, a social struggle for them to have a better quality of life. If it rains coffee in the countryside and if the prices are fair, the farmer, the children and the families of the countryside would not suffer so much.

I consider that this song is very much in line with the essence of coffee. That beverage that fills us with energy and revitalizes us should bring joy from the moment it is harvested until the moment its smell penetrates our senses and invades our body until the last sip.
