Hello everyone :)
It´s time for another trip.

In order to get to know the places we visit, in addition to needing a vehicle, we also have to walk.
This was the case with this visit to the "Nossa Senhora dos Remédios" Sanctuary in Lamego, a place that brings thousands of people to travel to this city in northern Portugal.

Since 1984, the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios, the staircase and the park have been classified as a Property of Public Interest.
We park the car and walk along the main avenue, which presents us with the image of the Sanctuary in the distance and is adorned by trees on both sides, sculptures alluding to the different seasons of the year and the statues of Cochicho.

After a few minutes we arrived at the beginning of our "pilgrimage". When looking up, we cannot see the top, but what immediately catches our attention is the Santo Estevão Park that flanks the entire staircase. Climbing the 686 Baroque-style steps on the slopes of "Santo Estevão" mountain is mandatory, culminating in the arrival at the Sanctuary.
Its construction began in the year 1750, but its completion was only in 1905.

There are 9 levels, all of them with wonderful tiles, statues, the Pelicano fountain and a small octagonal chapel built in the 16th century in honor of the Virgin at the behest of Bishop D. Manuel de Noronha. On one of the levels, we can see eighteen statues representing kings and patriarchs of Judea, and in the center an imposing bowl of water where an obelisk stands 22 meters high, decorated and supported by mythical Atlanteans.

Nicolau Nasoni, who was the author of the paintings that cover the vaults of the Cathedral of Lamego, designed some of the baroque works that we can find, namely a beautiful granite fountain that is located next to the Sanctuary.

We stopped several times, the climb is not easy, but it is well worth it.
The green mantle that accompanies the ascent is magnificent, the sun's rays that penetrate the treetops make it look like an enchanted forest and in summer it must be a wonderful place to rest and contemplate the chirping of birds along with the laughter of children throw the ball.

We can even make the journey to the top from the side, but this way we wouldn't be able to observe anything i'm describing to you.
The tourist vans kept arriving, and they made the reverse route accompanied by a guide who reported everything they saw.
Arriving at the top, we are treated to a brutal view over the Avenue and also the Sanctuary dedicated to the patron saint.

Inside there are several altars in gilded woodwork and tile panels depicting scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary.
Hidden in a corner, we find a chestnut tree that is over 700 years old and with a perimeter of over 19 meters.

Make a mistake if you think that the descent is easier than the ascent. It is true that and as they say here "all the saints help", but the pain in the legs was already felt even halfway down the path.
The place is much more than what i manage to convey in this brief description or even through the captured images, but i still hope that i can convey a friendly and realistic description.
That's all for today, but soon i'll share some more corners of this beautiful city that positively surprised me.
I hope you enjoyed :)

Always remember:

Value your time, because every fraction counts, and the price of anything is the amount of life you trade for it.
May the memories of the travels be eternalized in the photographs, and may the photographs transport us back to the travels ;)
