There´s A Castle in Lindoso - Portugal

Hello all :)

And today i conclude the visit to the small village of Lindoso in the north of Portugal with the visit to the castle that is located there :)

In case you missed any of the previous posts, it should be noted that Lindoso is a small village located in the municipality of Ponte da Barca (pictured in one of the previous posts), in the district of Viana do Castelo, in Portugal.

When we got there, we were undecided between which of the two attractions we should go first, the granaries (pictured in the previous post) or directly to the Castle, but we opted to leave the visit to the Castle for the last place, after a small picnic later of wandering around lost among the granaries.

I'm not sure if it had something to do with the time we visited, but very few people were there, which made it possible to experience that place with much more pleasure and intensity.

With our stomachs full, we decided to cross a small green area that took us directly to the main entrance of the high walls.
This ancient building, built from scratch in the Middle Ages, according to historical data, around the year 1200, has been classified as a National Monument since 1910, maintaining a dominant position on the bank of the river Lima right at the top of the so-called Serra Amarela.

I don't know where the name of this mountain came from, because, i must confess, i didn't delve deep enough into this story, but i suspect it's due to the privileged position in front of the sun at this time of the day, believe me, here the so-called golden hour takes on a whole new meaning.

Returning to the castle, this one was built, like most of the castles i know, with the aim of defense, a lookout point and, above all, a mark of sovereignty on the border with Spanish lands.

Unlike many others that we have in our country, this did not become the scene of major battles or Dantesque episodes, but it was still considered an important military monument due to the tested techniques and architecture.

As expected, once the hostile times were over and entering peacetime, these powerful buildings no longer had the utility and function for which they were designed and built, falling into a state of abandonment and consequent ruin until they ended up being acquired by the public estate and then undergo preservation and restoration interventions.

As fate would have it, this was the case at the exact moment we made this visit, and for that very reason it was only possible for us to tour the interior space next to the walls, as the central nave was closed and undergoing restoration work, not having been able to visit and record some photos of its interior, or climb any of the towers, but still the visit was memorable and to stay in the memory.

I intend to go back there to do a complete approach.
That´s all for today ;)

I've been there, it's an interesting castle... With no noisy neighbours. How much do they sell it for? 😄
