TITOLO POST STEEMIT FICO copia.jpg

Hi everyone, today's post is a bit different than usual because more than an excursion, it's a walk around and inside the temple of Possagno in the province of Treviso.
It was designed by the famous sculptor Antonio Canova and the construction was completed in 1830.
Just think that Canova never saw the finished work, the sculptor in fact died in 1822.

Canova's idea was to create a grandiose circular building with a pronaos, reminiscent of the Pantheon in Rome, but with Doric columns, like the Parthenon in Athens.

He financed it all at his expense and it was completed as per his will by his brother.

ITA

Back to the day I took these photos, I had just finished a hike and the sun was setting, the light was so beautiful that since I was nearby I decided to visit it to take some photos.

I'd say it was a good idea!

The colors had become warm, the light was soft, that architectural work in those light conditions gave me a sense of well-being.

The temple placed on an altitude of 342 meters above sea level, dominates the town of Possagno and this means that the view is wide and as far as the eye can see.

ITA

The stone with which it is made is called lumachella (calcareous material, rich in shells) and comes from the now abandoned quarries in the village of Costalunga, in the nearby municipality of Cavaso.

ITA

As I walked along the colonnade I looked out towards the town and seemed to see paintings between one column and another.

awesome post! the finishings of the temple is so precise and clean! it still blows my mind how the old architecture was built especially those megalithic structures in the awkward places like those in machu pichu and such, I hope I could travel around the world and see all this wonders.

PS I love the photos you took! !PIZZA

Thank you! I agree, in many ancient architectures you can see very high examples of craftsmanship, real architectural jewels that are the emblem of the state of the art.

Wish you have the chance to visit Italy sometime!
