The Imer Dumpling Festival and walk in the Fosne Meadows - Discovering Italy with alequandro!

Hi everyone! A few weeks ago I attended the dumpling festival for the first time in Imer, a charming village in the heart of the Italian Dolomites. The festival takes place every year at the end of September, and this year I decided to participate to live an authentic experience of Trentino cuisine and culture.

Ciao a tutti! Qualche settimana fa ho partecipato per la prima volta alla festa dei canederli ad Imer, un incantevole paesino nel cuore delle Dolomiti italiane. La festa si svolge ogni anno a fine settembre, e quest'anno ho deciso di partecipare per vivere un'esperienza autentica di cucina e cultura trentina.

Arriving in Imer, the mountain landscape was simply breathtaking. The peaks of the Dolomites surrounded the village, and the fresh air was a welcome relief from the hot summer days. The scent of burnt wood and spices hung in the air, a sign that the dumpling festival was in full swing.

Arrivando ad Imer, il paesaggio montano era semplicemente mozzafiato. Le vette delle Dolomiti circondavano il villaggio, e l'aria fresca era un benvenuto ristoro dalle calde giornate estive. Il profumo di legno bruciato e spezie aleggiava nell'aria, segno che la festa dei canederli era in pieno svolgimento.

I headed towards the main square of the town, where the party was taking place. Colorful and cheerful stalls had been carefully set up, and folk music was playing in the background. The most surprising thing was the variety of dumplings on offer. Everywhere I turned, there were different versions of this traditional Trentino dish.

Mi sono diretto verso la piazza principale del paese, dove la festa aveva luogo. Bancarelle colorate e allegre erano state allestite con cura, e la musica folk suonava in sottofondo. La cosa più sorprendente era la varietà di canederli offerti. Ovunque mi giravo, c'erano diverse versioni di questo piatto tradizionale trentino.

I started with traditional dumplings, made with stale bread, speck, and cheese. They were soft and tasty, a real comfort food. Then I tried the cheese dumplings, which were wrapped in a delicious melted cheese sauce. I couldn't resist the mushroom ones, prepared with fresh porcini mushrooms picked in the surrounding woods. Each bite was an explosion of flavors, and I couldn't stop tasting.

Ho iniziato con i canederli tradizionali, fatti con pane raffermo, speck, e formaggio. Erano morbidi e saporiti, un vero comfort food. Poi ho provato i canederli al formaggio, che erano avvolti in una deliziosa salsa di formaggio fuso. Non potevo resistere a quelli al funghi, preparati con funghi porcini freschi raccolti nei boschi circostanti. Ogni morso era un'esplosione di sapori, e non potevo smettere di assaggiare.

I also tried the pork shank but regretted it as the dumplings were so good that it wasn't necessary to look at other dishes.

Ho anche assaggiato lo stinco di maiale ma mi sono pentito in quanto i canederli erano talmente buoni che non era necessario orientarsi su altri piatti.

After the hearty lunch, I decided to take a walk to work off some food. I headed towards the Fosne meadows in Val Canali, a short distance from Imer. The walk was refreshing, with green meadows stretching to the horizon and the sound of a river flowing nearby. The mountains around seemed enveloped in a magical atmosphere.

Dopo il pranzo abbondante, ho deciso di fare una passeggiata per smaltire un po' di cibo. Mi sono diretto verso i prati di Fosne in Val Canali, a breve distanza da Imer. La passeggiata è stata rigenerante, con i prati verdi che si estendevano all'orizzonte e il rumore di un fiume che scorreva nelle vicinanze. Le montagne intorno sembravano avvolte da un'atmosfera magica.

I spent the afternoon walking among the wildflowers and breathing in the fresh mountain air. It was a true oasis of tranquility, a perfect counterbalance to the lively dumpling party in the morning.

Ho passato il pomeriggio passeggiando tra i fiori selvatici e respirando l'aria fresca di montagna. Era una vera oasi di tranquillità, un perfetto contrappeso alla vivace festa dei canederli del mattino.

This glimpse really left me speechless.
There is this small stone mountain and some wooden houses around it, it looks like a place taken from a fantasy book.

Questo scorcio mi ha davvero lasciato a bocca aperta.
C'è questa piccola montagna di pietra e attorno delle casette di legno, sembra un luogo tratto da un libro fantasy.

This place put me at peace with myself.
Clean and fresh air, a vivid green meadow with a few houses here and there... just the sounds of nature and a crown of mountains around me... a paradise!

Questo luogo mi ha messo in pace con me stesso.
Aria pulita e fresca, un prato verde e vivido con qualche casetta qua e là... solo i suoni della natura e attorno a me una corona di montagne...un paradiso!

At the end of the day, I returned to Imer with a heart full of satisfaction for having participated in such an authentic celebration and for having explored the natural beauty of Val Canali. Without a doubt, the dumpling festival in Imer is an experience I will never forget.

Alla fine della giornata, sono tornato a Imer con il cuore pieno di soddisfazione per aver partecipato a una festa così autentica e per aver esplorato la bellezza naturale della Val Canali. Senza dubbio, la festa dei canederli ad Imer è un'esperienza che non dimenticherò mai.
