Cornealus & Ever hungry skull | Splinterlands art contest
Hello friends! I am very happy to be able to participate again in this contest week at @splinterlands, today I present this work where I chose two cards that are the ones I liked the most so far to make my drawing: Cornealus and Ever hungry skull, from a couple ago For weeks I wanted to do it but I had not thought about the possibility of merging these two cards into a single drawing, it seemed quite interesting to me since both have aesthetic similarities, my idea was to represent the giant skull with a frontal perspective, where it seemed that It is eating Cornealus but Cornealus is in turn rolling up the skull with its tails, going through its eye sockets.
I really liked the color combination for this drawing, besides I wanted to try something new out of my comfort zone, I think it's the first time I've drawn a skull, the truth is that it came out quite well for my first time , hope you like it.
To start my drawing I saw different references of skulls including the original image of the letter, it was somewhat difficult to achieve this sketch and help me with some rules and shapes tools, at first I had an idea to make a floor where the floor was opening and full of lava, I discarded this idea after painting that background and realizing that the drawing looked quite loaded with elements, so I also deleted the lineart of that idea, I started painting using colors similar to those of the original skull only that a a little more desaturated and then I gave more details starting with the eye socket, and then the rest of the skull, at some point I got quite confused and did everything quite badly but little by little I understood where to place the shadows and lights.
I dedicated myself to painting the teeth and fangs and then put a small light red light in his eyes, in the center a little white and draw these flames that the character has in the eyes, I gave some touches of shadow in some parts so that it looked a little more real and draw a crack in the skull.
Now it was time to paint Cornealus, I painted in the center with a lighter tone almost white and I made the edges with a darker tone so that it would have more volume, I painted the iris with a quite striking purple adding some details with dark lines and light and then the pupil, for the tails I applied a lot of volume and improved the curved shapes that I had done at the beginning, for the background I wanted to make a shape similar to the fire that I painted in her eyes, finally I applied the last details to the drawing, more than everything adjusting the saturation and highlights a bit, I wanted it to be quite bright.
This is my entry for this week and I felt pretty good doing it because I went out a little bit than usual.
