Education in my country
I have always known that education in my country is not the best (ESPECIALLY if we are talking about public schools, as in our case), so we have always tried to reinforce each subject at home and teach him a few things that they never teach him at school. But lately, I've been quite concerned because the situation has been getting worse. Not only do they not teach basic things that third graders should learn, but there are also serious errors in the little they do teach.
A few weeks ago, while looking through my son's notebook, I noticed that on that same day they had done some addition problems, and the strange thing is that the teacher checked his homework and marked everything as correct when there are clearly mistakes in some of the answers, for example: 0 + 25 = 0???
And it's not the first time I've seen this kind of mistake. It's happened with all of his teachers (he's always had different teachers in each grade), and it's incredible how poorly they check his homework. It seems like they do it in a hurry without paying much attention. I know teachers don't earn enough for all they do, but we're raising completely ignorant children. I feel like the school pays more attention to parties, celebrations, and crafts than to what they should be teaching.
They attend English classes when the teacher feels like teaching (ALMOST NEVER). They don't have physical education classes because there is no teacher, so they still wear their PE uniforms on Thursdays so that the same teachers can make up exercises to teach the children. (WTF) THIS YEAR I HAVE SEEN AN EVEN WORSE DELAY than in previous years. There are days when I really don't feel like taking him to school because they don't do ANYTHING. There are days when they have four subjects to cover, and my son comes home with only one notebook filled out, and it's not because he didn't copy it down, it's simply because “THEY DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO COVER THE OTHER SUBJECTS.”
It's quite frustrating. I know I shouldn't leave all his education to the school, but I feel like he's not learning anything there. We've decided to teach him as best we can, but it's difficult when you don't have a gift for teaching. Even so, I managed to get a book that covers all the topics he should be learning in third grade. It's a very comprehensive book, so it will help me a lot in my mission as a homeschool teacher.
