Getting up isn't always easy, but it's not impossible | contest number #305

Cuando la vida te desafía, ¿dónde encuentras el coraje para levantarte y seguir adelante?
When life challenges you, where do you find the courage to stand back up and keep going?
Many of us have to live through difficult times, although I know there are people who are perhaps worse off than I am. But in the end, each person knows how much it hurts to go through a difficult situation—it’s different for everyone, and we all have different ways of coping. In my case, I’ve had to pick myself up many times, and I always find the courage by challenging myself. It might sound a little crazy, but whenever something bad happens to me or it seems like there’s no way out, I always talk to myself and say, “Okay, we have to keep moving forward, or we’ll sink forever”—though it also depends on the situation.

To give an example of another difficult situation: When my son was born, my country was in dire straits; it was a very hard time in 2017–2018. There was no food or money; my husband’s income was no longer enough to buy food, and I couldn’t work because I had to take care of my baby. I fell into a state of utter despair; we were all malnourished—except for my son, who, luckily, was eating well because I was at least able to produce breast milk at the time. I swear I felt devastated, but I’d look at my little son and think about how much more he’d need. It was even important for him that I eat well, and he gave me the strength to keep going. That’s how I started working remotely—I landed a job that paid pretty well, essentially as an assistant to a Spanish man. It didn’t last long, but it was enough to get us back on our feet and feel like there was a glimmer of hope.

And that’s why I say it depends on the situation—my motivation to get out of bed might be my son, my family, or even just pushing myself, challenging myself, telling myself, “You really can’t do it.” Although that’s something I’ve lost quite a bit in recent years—over time, I’ve lost a lot of my sense of purpose. I don’t even enjoy the things that used to make me happy as much anymore. I don’t know if it’s normal or just part of growing up, but it’s pretty frustrating to lose that sense of purpose. though I haven’t lost it 100% yet. I’d love to go back to how I was before—when I’d feel down but somehow manage to pick myself up no matter how sad or broken I felt.

Your son gave you a strong reason to keep going during one of the hardest periods of your life. It’s also understandable to feel lost after carrying so much for so long. I hope you find that sense of purpose again, little by little !LADY
