It's been a long time since I've felt “pretty" | contest number #301

¿Procuras estar bella para que te vean bien los demás, o es para sentirte bien contigo misma?
Do you try to look your best so that others see you in a positive light, or is it to feel good about yourself?
This is a pretty tough question for me—I’ve even been sitting here for 10 minutes staring at the screen, trying to figure out what to say. Generally speaking, over the past year I’ve paid almost no attention to my appearance; I’ve gained even more weight, and I hardly ever wear makeup or style my hair much anymore. I think one of the things that’s bringing me down the most—and that’s making me not want to do anything with my hair—is the haircut I have right now. As some of you may know, a few months ago I cut my hair into a pixie cut at home, and it didn’t turn out bad, but I feel like it looks weird because I’m overweight, and that makes me feel even more self-conscious.

Even though I don’t get ready the way I used to, I do try to look at least presentable when I go out with my family or my husband’s family. I put on a little makeup and style my hair a bit better, and honestly, I do it to feel a little prettier and also so that others see me that way, However, in my day-to-day life, when I go shopping or for a walk, I always just grab the first thing I see in my closet and go out without any makeup. I’ve even gone out without brushing my hair, which is a disaster for me since I have curly hair. I’m not straightening it very often either, since I feel more comfortable with my natural hair, and besides, it smells really good when I don’t straighten it.

Ideally, you should get ready for yourself, but I've always been this way— I like to look good and for others to see me looking good (especially when I’m going out with people I don’t see very often). Right now, it’s much harder for me to feel comfortable in my own skin because of my weight and other issues. I have a lot of clothes, but I hate how most of them look on me, and I feel like a 60-year-old woman—being overweight definitely makes you look older.

Sometimes I miss always feeling pretty, but I swear this year has been awful for me—super exhausting. I feel like I’m not sleeping well, I’m sleepy and anxious all day long, and I’m also depressed. I’m always thinking about the things I have to do and make a plan for the whole day, but in the end I only end up doing one or two of the things I had in mind. All this stress is mentally exhausting, and I have absolutely no desire left to take care of myself… Sticking to a routine has been mission impossible for me lately.

You are a very lovely girl, and that haircut looks great on you. Even though you are going through the situation you described, recognizing that it stems from being overweight is a first step toward focusing on how to tackle it. I hope you can find the motivation to do so. Sending you a big hug,

Thank you. That was my goal this year—to focus on my weight—but so much has happened that it's impossible for me to concentrate on that right now, though I know I'll get back to it soon.
You are so beautiful, and your hair cut is on point. You see I was once over weight and one time my husband took a picture of me and I didn't like what I saw so I made up my mind to work on myself. What work for me was cutting out carbs, sugar of any kind, and sticking to protein, then OMAD and I got my youthful body back. I was breastfeeding when I did this so it's safe for a nursing mom.
Wow! That's amazing. I'm sure I'll soon make the effort to get in shape and feel better about myself. Thanks for the advice
