The cereal showdown: Which one is the best?

There are several brands of cereal on the market that have tried to make their own version of Flips, but none of them seemed like a worthy rival to me; even MEGA BIT seemed pretty mediocre at first, but the more I tried them, the more I liked them; plus, they have some advantages that Flips don’t have. Yesterday I bought these two cereals to try them and see which one was better, though I also bought others that I forgot to take a picture of the box because, honestly, they aren’t even in the running; they’re called Rocket Planet, by the Santoni brand…

• Rocket planet: Su galleta es bastante insípida e incluso me atrevo a decir que tiene un saborcito extraño al final después de que lo tragas, el relleno a veces es escaso, incluso conseguí varios completamente vacíos, los pocos que tenían relleno sabia a chocolate barato y realmente su precio es económico pero tampoco es tanto la diferencia entre los demás, actualmente compre ese cereal en un precio de 740 bs que para la tasa del dólar de hoy serian $1.46 aproximadamente.

• MEGA BIT: Este cereal realmente entendió todo, su galleta es quizás el punto débil ya que es bastante suave y me gustaría que fuese mas crujiente, quizás que tenga una textura mas parecida al flips que es una cascara dura, pero el relleno es extremadamente bueno y exagerado, en cada bocado se siente el sabor intenso a chocolate y con leche bien fría es todo un manjar, este cereal viene únicamente en esta presentación de una bolsa de 120g y tiene un costo aproximado de $1.96 Bastante económico y delicioso.

• FLIPS: El favorito por años, desde pequeña este cereal siempre me ha gustado, incluso recuerdo cuando vivía con mis padres y siempre me compraban flips, yo era feliz comiendo flips siempre que podía, pero odiaba que me dieran otro sabor que no fuese chocolate… La galleta del flips es simplemente perfecta, es dura con un sabor bastante bueno, el relleno de chocolate sabe delicioso pero no viene completamente relleno, mas bien, es una lotería… Hay dias en los que compro flips y vienen super rellenos y otros donde parece que les dio flojera rellenarlos, tambien he tenido un problema enorme comprando flips y es que debo revisar cada detalle de la caja para poder comprarlo y saber que es el correcto ya que a veces venden unos flips que son exportados de Colombia y saben horribles incluso tienen un sabor amargo o simplemente no saben a nada, es la versión mas horrible de flips, los originales hechos aquí en Venezuela son lo mejores, pero aun asi fallan a veces con el relleno, tambien son bastante empalagosos, llega un punto donde te cansas de tanto dulce cosa que no me ha pasado con el mega bit. Ah y por cierto, casi olvidaba mencionar… Los flips son los mas costosos de esta lista, viene en esta presentación de bolsa que compre tambien de 120 gramos cuesta $2.47 y la caja (220 gramos) cuesta $3.96

• Rocket Planet: The cookie is pretty bland, and I’d even go so far as to say it has a weird aftertaste once you swallow it. The filling is sometimes sparse—I’ve even found several that were completely empty. The few that did have filling tasted like cheap chocolate, and while the price is indeed low, it’s not that much cheaper than the others. I recently bought this cereal for 740 Bs, which at today’s exchange rate would be approximately $1.46.

• MEGA BIT: This cereal really nailed it. The cookie is perhaps its weak point, since it’s quite soft—I’d prefer it to be crunchier, maybe with a texture more like Flips, which has a hard outer shell—but the filling is absolutely amazing and over-the-top. With every bite, you get an intense chocolate flavor, and it’s a real treat when enjoyed with ice-cold milk. This cereal is only available in this 120g bag and costs approximately $1.96. It’s quite affordable and delicious.

• FLIPS: My favorite for years—I’ve loved this cereal ever since I was little. I even remember when I lived with my parents and they’d always buy me Flips; I was happy eating Flips whenever I could, but I hated it when they gave me a flavor other than chocolate… The Flips cookie is just perfect—it’s crunchy with a really good flavor. The chocolate filling tastes delicious, but it’s not always fully filled; it’s more like a lottery… There are days when I buy Flips and they’re super filled, and others when it seems like they were too lazy to fill them. I’ve also had a huge problem buying Flips: I have to check every detail on the box before buying to make sure it’s the right one, since sometimes they sell Flips that are exported from Colombia and taste awful—they’re even bitter or just have no flavor at all. It’s the worst version of Flips; the originals made here in Venezuela are the best, but even so, they sometimes get the filling wrong. They’re also pretty sickly sweet—there comes a point where you get tired of all that sweetness, which hasn’t happened to me with Mega Bit. Oh, and by the way, I almost forgot to mention… flips are the most expensive on this list. The 120-gram bag I bought costs $2.47, and the box (220 grams) costs $3.96.
