We never imagined the end of classes would be like this

Who would have thought this school year would be so strange? In many ways, it was unusual—it felt more lackluster than others. I even felt the need to really step up homeschooling, but for it to end like this… almost a month earlier than expected—that was totally bizarre. During the last few days of school, I felt strange; every morning felt different, but I never imagined something so terrible would happen that it would bring everything to a standstill. I have no idea if the school building was inspected, but I noticed some pretty concerning things and heard from the teacher herself that the kids’ classroom had a huge crack. I couldn’t see it myself since we were being attended to on the ground floor...

We went to pick up the report card, and I was surprised to find that they were already processing registration. I thought they were being lax because normally, when registering, they always ask for certain things to keep everything up to date; this time, they didn’t ask for anything. It was a quick process that ended up taking a long time because the teachers hadn’t organized the documents in advance. My son passed to 4th grade with good grades—I’m happy about that—but it was strange since he had a whole month without any schoolwork, and to be honest, we haven’t even practiced at home; after everything we’ve been through, I just haven’t had the mental bandwidth for it.

My son was able to see one of his best friends and spend some time with him. Even though we live in the same neighborhood, we’ve never been able to meet up outside of school because I don’t know the boy’s mom and have no idea where they live so the kids can get together, but yesterday I finally worked up the courage to ask for her number.

And now that we're officially on vacation and nothing else has happened so far, it's time to get back on track and try to continue with some lessons at home, since that month without classes has a pretty big impact one way or another.

But since I'm still thinking about the school, I wonder what its structure is like and why we haven't been told anything about it… It's up to me to find that out and see how safe it is for the children.
