We're still living under socialism 💀

Although I’m embarrassed to admit it, today I stood in a huge line for a chicken and some mortadella. It’s humiliating, but that’s what we’ve been going through for a very long time… And in fact, this so-called “special shopping day” wasn’t for everyone—it was for seniors and people with children. I went along with it because, honestly, the situation isn’t such that I can afford to turn down a chicken or some mortadella… But it really bothered me to get up early on a Sunday and wait almost four hours just to get that. It was pretty stressful, overwhelming, and traumatic, since it reminded me so much of 2017.

I've been waiting since 8:30 a.m. because they were supposed to start at 9 a.m. As always, everything moves slowly in this country, and Venezuelans’ habit of being late never fails. I’ve always struggled with this issue wherever I go—no one respects schedules or other people’s time. They barely started selling things around 11 AM, and we finally managed to leave there at 12:40 PM.

Despite everything, the time went by pretty quickly because we found ways to keep ourselves entertained; we even had time to take a little walk since it took those people so long to set everything up and start selling.

Honestly, I don't know if I'd shop there again because they made me wait too long, the line was huge, and when you finally get to the counter, you can't take as much food as you want—just a chicken and some mortadella. To top it all off, they gave me a baby chicken; it was very, VERY small.

The only “good” thing is that they also sold other products (FLOUR, PASTA, RICE, OIL, SUGAR, GRAINS), but aside from that, there was a table with drinks like chicha and chocolate powder mix. Honestly, I really like those, and they were a great deal—usually those things are really expensive here. In the end, I was happier about those drinks than about the chicken.

I’ll look back on today’s experience as a kind of experiment; it had been ages since I’d stood in line for food, and it brought back the worst memories of the hardest days I’ve had in this country.

So many people need to see real stories about socialism, from the people living under it! Here is Canada it is looked at like a great thing and the way of the future. There are even talks about government run grocery stores. Thank you for sharing!!
