Ursa Major Constellation

This is a photo of the Peter and Paul Fortress in St. Petersburg taken from the opposite bank of the Neva River. At night, the fortress is perfectly illuminated and is a great sight. That night the weather was cloudless, and I managed to capture the Ursa Major constellation hanging over the fortress high in the sky (it is best to view the picture in full size — just click on the image). The seven brightest stars of the constellation form a shape similar to a dipper with a handle. Remember, the two right stars of the dipper can be used to find the Pole Star, which is an excellent landmark and almost always points north (obviously, in the Northern Hemisphere only). This was the starry sky in St. Petersburg on a beautiful autumn night a couple of years ago. Thank you for stopping by!

Фотография Петропавловской крепости в Санкт-Петербурге, сделанная с противоположного берега реки Нева. Ночью крепость прекрасно освещена и представляет собой отличное зрелище. В ту ночь была безоблачная погода, и мне удалось запечатлеть созвездие Большой Медведицы, нависающее над крепостью высоко в небе (лучше всего рассматривать фотографию в полном размере — просто кликните на изображении). Семь самых ярких звёзд созвездия образуют фигуру, похожую на ковш с ручкой. Помните, по двум правым звёздам ковша можно найти Полярную Звезду, которая, в свою очередь, является отличным ориентиром на местности и почти всегда указывает на север (очевидно, только в Северном Полушарии). Вот такое вот было звёздное небо в Санкт-Петербурге в одну прекрасных осенних ночей пару лет назад. Спасибо, что заглянули в мой пост.
