#RockClassics - Gimme Shelter - Rolling Stones

Hi,

for today's #RockClassic, the # tag by @uwelang, I want to go back to my favourite year in music, namely 1969.

It is the year that the Rolling Stones released the album Let it bleed.

It was the alum where Mike Taylor replaced Brian Jones, who died in the summer of 69.

The first song from the album is GImme Shelter, which for me is in top10 of the Rolling Stones that I like.

It is done in the time of the Vietnam War and might be actual also for today.

The fine female voice is the one from Merry Clayton. I think it is the real spice of it. It gives the funk of the song. Yes the song is real funky and that we have to thank Merry Clayton for.

There are many versions out there with different artist, like the above with US, Fergie and will.i.am. It is not a bad one, but also not as good as the original. It has some infusion of style from all the one participating in.

I like more the Rag'N'Bone Man, as it adds more soul to the funk.

Happy listening!
