Taproot - biggest event on BTC this year

Hi,

as everyone, is either focused on the blood on the market, or the Hive pumping, another event seemed to fly under the radar on the weekend. Yes we had Hivefest, some Hivepunks and other urgent matters, but most missed the Taproot event, which went live on Sunday at 5:15 UTC on block 709,632.

Even @edicted missed it by one day, given the circumstances that this happened on his birthday, and it is a perfect gift from BTC, so to say. On a side note, happy birthday! Hope you had a blast!

I missed it by two days, and still wonder why I don't see over joyous people everywhere.

Why does it matter?

It matters because it opens a lot of new possibilities for BTC. Now, smart contracts are possible, DeFi is now possible in BTC, time released coins are another possibility, multiple signatures transactions are now possible, which bring also the privacy transactions with them. The size of the blocks are smaller, and the fees will need to go down.

All this has changed on BTC, with this single update. For me, it is the biggest event for BTC this year, which opens a whole new world for the Father of all coins.

Good summary, I was not aware that there were so many updates!
And all worked out smoothly, with no interruptions (like we know from earlier hardforks on Hive). Remarkable!
Just too bad that it went down 10%. But a 10%er is always possible. The fact that we had a double dip near 60K that was held, is quite bullish, isn´t it.
