$70 Buffet VS $100 Buffet

Hello guys, another good crusade is here!

This time I went for a bit more expensive place that was before the time of Ramadan. It’s a bit late but j wanted to make a comparison of the two fancy places. Also, I’m somewhat of an eater so I can take in a good amount of food but in these places where quality is of the essence is where my brakes are applied. No huge amount of food can overcome this amount of cash😩.
Regardless, let’s get this review started.

Location

The place below is called Amaya Food Gallery at Amari Dhaka. Situated at Gulshan-2, Road-41, Dhaka.

The thing that I love after anime if their food: the sushi. Beautifully plated like how Bengali decorate a “dala” with sweets and send to their in-laws during wedding. Colourful, filled with variations of the same item.

A different view of the sushi place, there were more items but they were too traditional for me😅.

I took the same stuff of their’s twice! The yellow one was a vegetable, the red sushi was a fish sushi but not salmon but another one that I didn’t know what.

Next I went for fried rice which was marvellous. I liked it so much that I took it thrice! The chicken on the left corner was dry so that was the end of me taking it, the prawn and mixed fried vegetable was amazing and went well with the fried rice.

This time I went for more items available that looked like I could eat. Honestly, in every buffet place there are items that you have to stay away from otherwise they would ruin your meal. The white colour of soft cushiony food was a flaky fish. I still have the taste in my mount, probably the best dish in the whole place for me. Well seasoned, kept in a mixture of soy sauce and spices made it amazing. The only drawback in this was that overtime it would become too soggy and inedible so I took all that I could the first time.

Beside the flaky fish was the mixed vegetable and chicken and above this mixed dish was a different type of rice, most likely an Indian one. Maybe hydrabadi biryani as I forgot what it actually was🤦😅. Beside the sushis was another type of fish dish that was good, the heat was present that made it more satisfying. The white spirals were crisps. And of course, bbq sauce in chicken and I added it to the fish too. Wanted to try new stuff😂.

Noodles is a food that I always loved, may it be maggi, pasta, macaroni, spaghetti etc with an added helping of mushroom. The noodles on the left was a bit dry but I think that is how people eat this. More flaky fish and mixed vegetables and chicken.

To end the days meal was try full of my favourite flavour, chocolate! Starting with the mousse on the left to an amazing pastry in it’s top side. The horrendously disfigured sustenance was cake, pieces of cake that were mushed together. The yellow sludge on the lower right side was a carrot “firni”. 2 delicious and jiggly pudding that was easy on the mouth to swallow.

At the end of the day, I didn’t waste any food even tho I know that this was a shit expensive on my end. Had to suffer with a bloated tummy for the next 4-5 hours and had to drink water to digest the whole of the stuff.

Westin, Dhaka

Location

Main Gulshan Avenue, plot-01, road-45. Yeah, copied straight from the Google XD. I myself am not very accustomed with the slithering roads just yet. My brother directed the driver the whole way where I dozed off on the side.

(Taken from my brother’s phone)

Friendly and easy going guards. Got scanned with the metal detector and went straight to the lift. Right after we got out we saw the huge welcome and Ramadan Kareem sign.

Our reserved seats were in the corner of a private room. This wasn’t a good place we were far away from where the food was kept and had to traverse through the huge amount of people present there. However, first impression of the table was good.

It only hit me after I settled in and was sitting idle on the chair that it was a self service and had to bring in my food by myself🤦. I set out for a food hunt as the clock ticked away, closer to the call of the maghrib prayer(azan) that would end the fast of the day. Brought in some papaya juice and lassi(saffron added). The papaya juice only looked good… and the lassi was not tasty at all, I atleast, found it to be very salty.

I was very picky on my first round of food retrieving as I didn’t want too much of a meal that would fill me to the brim. This was the first time had to add a bit of rice on the plate due to the food I chose to have this time. I did search about 2/3rd of the place in the little amount of time and brought in one item that I usually avoid right off the bat: rice. This was an egg fried rice. I took chicken drumstick, a chicken piece, chicken pakora, prawn, king lobster, beef “chaap”, and the flaky fish. The drum stick was very good, no kidding. The pakora was amazing, and the fish was indescribably good. The outer layer had this egg batter that had the most amazing crunch and it was hot! The flaky fish was the best dish once again.

The sole reason of taking this pic was to show that I d successfully removed the outer shell of the lobster using solely my knife and fork amid such classy people😁 and that too without making noise.

I brought in some more meal regardless as I didn’t want to go up again to fetch the grub. A lamb shank, a lamb steak pieces, sushi AND sashimi. This as not my first time having sashimi but definitely a first in this restaurant. At first I saw looked at it and thought that of it as a fruit but then as I brought it to my table I realised that it was a fish dish I.e sashimi. It needed salt😅, apart from that it’s texture was smooth. A slice of cheese and the green stuff was horseradish or wasabi. I’m told that their tastes are pretty similar.

The delectable halim. A beef stew dish that has the bones and the insides of the bones

My brother’s plate was also filled with chicken. What can I say, “birds” of a feather.

His palate of lamb shank.

7847858E-BF4D-4B86-AC55-89D34D2161AD.jpeg

My palate of last main course before I threw in the towel. Beef stroganoff on the top left of the plate, the chicken pakora, the prawn, everything I took was a second time except for the white rice. This was the deal breaker as this was when I was full. The rice was too much for me.

Dessert

The dessert contained many vibrant delicacies. The Black Forest that is on it’s side, the cheese cake beside it, a white cake and the one that looks like a boat was a fruit-tart. The white sludge was a rice pudding which was finger licking good.

My brother’s choice of dessert. I shared from him some.

I forgot the name but this was really good but this was a time where my tongue had lost it’s ability to fully taste the food. My stomach was full and this time I did a second thing that I normally never do, drink water. This was why I was full more quickly. This was what my friend did the last time, now I am a victim of the thirst🤷‍♂️.

The true prize, blueberry and chocolate ice-cream with chocolate sprinkle and normal sprinkles. This was good. The was the last thing I had before heading out, slowly due to the added weight.

All pictures were taken from my phone and hence they belong to me.

Conclusion

Both the restaurants had quality and the sort of food that I like and was very delish. Sushi wise, there were more variation in Amaya, the flaky fish was much better in Westin. The noodles was good in both the places, but Westin had more variations. In drinks, Weepstin had 6 different drinks where coconut water and lemonade was available and really helped me ease my stomach. There were orange, guava, watermelon, and lassi too. There was a friggin cheese bar that I loved to watch! I love cheese and I’m sure many other do too. There was a crouton section with bread. There was a whole section dedicated to fish! I didn’t take fish but liked the decoration😜. Westin had the better dessert by far as they offered more kinds of tart and pastry that I didn’t even get to try. Amaya had a good main course section but so did Westin. Hence, this time Westin prevails by a good margin! Not that Amaya was bad or anything but Westin was just better. But hey, the more you send the better you get, Westin was costlier than Amaya so cost wise I would definitely hand it over to Amaya Food Gallery at Amari Dhaka.
