Decebalus impressive rock sclupture over the river Danube
One of the main attractions on the Danube is the cliff sculpture of Decebalus, created between 1994 - 2004 on a rocky outcrop on the Danube River, on the border between Romania and Serbia. It is located near, 25 km, to the Orșova in the southwestern part of Romania. With a height of about 55 meter and 25 meters in width is also the tallest largest sculpture in Europe, the famous leader of the Dacians, the ancestors of the Romanians, watches peaceful over the river Danube with many visitors every day.
What we can see today is not yet complete of the original plan, for some reason the work on it has not been continued since 2004. But even so it looks really beautiful and imposing.
The Sckluptur can be seen also from the bridges, but if you want to have a closer look at the sculpture's artwork, you should rent a boat.
A boat rental is very quick to find costing 300 lei, the ride takes approx. 1 hour with well trained staff for up to four people.
Sightseeing in the Danube Caves area including the following sights: Decebal's Face, Dubova Bay, Ponicova Cave, Veterani Cave, Entrance to Cazanele Mari, Cazanele Mici, Mraconia Bay and Tabula Traiana
In background the small Mraconia Monastery. When you are in the area definitely do not forget to visit.
Have a beautiful Day!
