Gatztelugatxe in Basque country
Gaztelugatxe is an island in the middle of the coast of Biscay, which belongs to the municipality of Bermeo, Basque Country in Spain. Lies under nature reserve biotope, far from any city.
With the mainland it can be reached by a stone bridge with 241 steps. It's a really hard walk, but it's well worth while, and you'll be amazed by the wonderful views.
The church at the top, unfortunately, is not the original building. Over the centuries this church was destroyed by fire and wars and had to be rebuilt again and again. It is supposed that the original chapel dates back to the 9th century, about the 12th century a monastery was founded here. Follow up with a part two, be sure to check it out
